Sen. Cruz: Hagel Resignation Shows Obama Defense Policy Has Failed

Next nominee must spurn policy of ‘leading from behind’ and mount forceful defense of U.S. national security interests

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding the resignation of Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel:

“Today's resignation reflects the ongoing damage caused by President Obama's misguided foreign policy of leading from behind. We need a Secretary of Defense who is squarely focused on defending the national security interests of the United States, first and foremost, and especially preventing a bad deal over Iran's nuclear weapons program that could do irreparable harm to us and our allies. One strong option would be former Sen. Joe Lieberman, a member of the President's own party with deep experience and unshakable commitment to the security of the United States. I urge the President to give him full and fair consideration for this critical position.

“Additionally, in response to the President’s illegal executive amnesty announced last week, I have called on Senate Republican leadership to halt confirmation of all of the President's executive and judicial nominations, with the exception of vital national security positions. By any measure, the Secretary of Defense is a vital national security position, and the Senate should promptly confirm a strong and qualified nominee.”

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

What part has failed, ObOzO lost Iraq and Afghanistan. The armed forces are down sizing. The Pacific has been given to the Chinese. Latin American does not follow U.S. lead. The Middle East is in the hand of thugs, Israel is stabbed in the back whenever possible. The next President will have no nukes to defend the country with.

As much as I admire the guy, sometimes it seems that Ted Cruz is a little over exposed.

I understand why he's doing this, that rather than allow the MSM and leadership of both parties to define him as a 'rightwing wackobird'. He's got alot of misinformation to overcome.

I hope it means he's planning on running in '16. He's one of the very few possible candidates that would interest me.

Yes, the vast majority of the country still has yet to hear of him.

Which explains why Huckabee still is near the top in most polls, and why Romney and Jeb Bush are over-represented.

Hagel probably didn’t entirely go along with the Stalinist 0bama military purge.
I wonder if Hagel’s resignation had anything to do with Ferguson. Is defense involved in some way?
At this point, although Hagel isn’t great, anyone put up by 0bama would be much much worse. Better to keep Hagel and confirm no one.

Hagel Resignation Shows Obama Defense Policy Has Failed

Obama’s defense policy was doomed from the start and never had a chance.

Obama’s naivety on foreign policy is epic.

He believed that democracy could work in the Arab world. How childish in the extreme.

He like Carter before him will have the deaths of thousands of Middle Eastern people follow wake of his presidency for generations.
