Rick Perry Ramps Up
Politico ^ | 11/28/14 | Kenneth P. Vogel

Posted on 11/29/2014 11:07:07 AM PST by iowamark

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is inviting hundreds of prominent Republican donors and policy experts to a series of gatherings next month that are intended to rebuild his damaged national brand and lay the foundation for a potential 2016 presidential campaign, fundraisers and organizers confirmed to POLITICO.

The small-group sessions kick off Tuesday and Wednesday in Austin with a pair of lunches and dinners held in the governor’s mansion wedged between policy briefings at the nearby office of Perry senior adviser Jeff Miller. In all, Perry’s team expects he will meet in person with more than 500 major donors and bundlers from around the country in December as well as a slew of operatives, Republican National Committee members and policy experts.

Perry’s intensive month of foundation-building comes as other prospective Republican presidential candidates – notably former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz – are engaging with the wealthy Texans who for years have been among the GOP’s most significant sources of cash. As the heir to a political dynasty with deep Texas ties, Bush in particular could seriously cut into Perry’s financial base. Bush over the last few months has met with major Texas donors...

“Ted Cruz could compete as well,” Lambert said of the junior senator from Texas. Cruz is a favorite of the conservative grassroots, but he has struggled to win over GOP establishment donors, who view him as an impractical ideologue.

“There will definitely be a difference in the donor base, but I think he’s right in the mix,” said Lambert, who praised Cruz and added, “It will be a tough decision.”

If this story was about Chris Cristie, would the headline read “Cristie Rumps Up”?

As a Texan, I won’t vote for Governor Good Hair.

He seems to be a nice enough guy, but………….

President Cruz rings a lot better in my ears.

Rick Perry ramps up for a cabinet position? Get real Rick. There are far better candidates in the GOP than yourself.

No thanks to the man who said he supports a "pathway to citizenship" for ILLEGAL aliens and the man who said Hillary Clinton was "Great Secretary of State".

We already have a pro-ILLEGAL alien president and that has not worked out so well.

As a Texan I will vote for Rick Perry. Love Ted Cruz but want him to stay in Senate. Too, Perry has experience running government and Cruz does not. Perry has a few warts, but you cannot argue with success. So much success, that I wish the newcomers would all move back home.

Sure.

Rick Perry on the Record

Question: But just to be clear: if border security is accomplished, you can envision some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally.

And Perry's response?

Sure.

According to the Los Angeles Times, he called Clinton — a potential Democratic presidential front-runner in 2016 — a “very, very capable public servant, great secretary of state, first lady,” when asked what he thought about her at a Bay Area event.

Text out of context is pretext. You need to read the paragraphs above your quote. He said they should get in the line like everyone else.

Yes he did. But just as with his pro-Amnesty quote the Perry faithful either ignore it or defend it. One told me recently that supporting a "pathway to citizenship" is not the same as supporting amnesty. Right. And Obama's refusal to deport ILLEGALs and his giving them the right to work in America isn't amnesty either.

Imagine if you will, Perry should somehow get the Republican nomination. How could he attack Hillary for her horrendous record as SoS when he is on record as stating she was "great" at it? It is mind boggling to me how any real conservative could support this man. Yet they do.

I have read the entire article more than once. And you are grasping at straws.

Supporting a "pathway to citizenship" is supporting amnesty. And given RINO Rick's long history of supporting both ILLEGAL aliens, taxpayer-funded subsidies for them, and labeling as heartless those who dare disagree, he is all about amnesty. Nice try, though.

Agreed.

I’m sure Perry was a fine governor. I admire his achievements there.

But gaffes like this quote re Hillary, and his gaffe in the debates when he was unable to recall which departments he would eliminate, simply make him unelectable.

You make a couple of good points.

We’ll just have to see how things look when the election gets closer.
