“A spokesperson told The Hartford Courant in 1994 that Lieberman received an educational deferment from the Vietnam War draft when he was an undergraduate and law student from 1960 to 1967. Upon graduating from law school at age 25, Lieberman qualified for a family deferment because he was already married and had one child, Matt.”

No way!

Dick Cheney had very similar deferments. He was a congressman, white house aide & chief of staff, defense secretary & vice president. So did William Cohen, Harold Brown, James Schlesinger and many other men who’ve held that position.

Forgotten Amendments: "War mongering neocons are NOT "staunch conservatives".
It's not 1967 or 1951.
The statists are the ones who want perpetual war and empire.
And that's exactly what Lieberman is.
He's an awful human being."

As a Democrat, Lieberman was fairly moderate, and was rewarded for his "moderation" by being driven out of the Democrat party.
If that's an "awful human being", we should have more such Democrats.

In international affairs, if recent years have taught us anything, it's that a weak USA makes the world worse, gets our friends killed, and lets our enemies run wild.
Military weakness is a provocation for war and defeat.

No American wants "perpetual war and empire", but we have lots of friends, economic partners and military allies around the world who depend on the US doing what we've promised them we will do, if the time comes.
If we abandon such promises, and our friends, the world will quickly become a nastier place in which we will have far fewer reliable friends, and far more dangerous enemies.

I am certain Lieberman understands such basics, even if you do not, FRiend.

Yep, Linda would be a Secretary of State and Gore a Comissar for Global Warming. McCain would be Duche of course, and they need a dried Obama’s mummy for Lenin in some Mausoleum in Washington, DC.

How many wrongs make a right?

Almost half of past SecDefs had 0 military experience, but you’re holding this guy to a higher standard. Why? There have been presidents (Wilson, Jefferson, Clinton, Obama, etc.) with no military background, yet they commanded all our forces.

2ndDivisionVet: "? There have been presidents (Wilson, Jefferson, Clinton, Obama, etc.) with no military background, yet they commanded all our forces."

A rather unfortunate list!
But you can, thankfully, remove Thomas Jefferson from it, since he did serve as a Colonel during the Revolution.
Yes, most people want to forget that, but there it is.

A more useful list might include John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, though both were deeply involved in the Revolutionary War, from several aspects.
Others include Grover Cleveland (draft dodger), Howard Taft, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover.

Franklin Roosevelt tried to resign his position as Under-Secretary of the Navy during the First World War, to join the military, but his letter of resignation was rejected.

One thing about McCain...he is very loyal to his close friends.

The only problem with that is that all his close friends are Dems or RINOs.

That’s true. For McCain, it’s friends before country, friends before his constituents, and friends before party.

John Bolton would be great Sec of State but his level of intelligence is so far above Obama’s that Obama would not understand what Bolton was talking about. He would be fired like how many Generals by Obama.

Ted Cruz should reevaluate his position on Al Gore’s running mate, if John McCain is agreeing with him.

The fact that civilian presidents are commanders-in-chief only reinforces the need for a Sec Def who has served in the military and who understands the sacrifices our troops make on a personal level. Our troops need an advocate, not a rubber stamp for the Prez.

Obama had many potential military candidates for Sec Def, but somehow managed to destroy them all.

Don’t be surprised if he nominates Jane Fonda. She would qualify under your argument.

I’m going to pay a very rare compliment to a Democrat here and say that Joe Liberman would not sully himself to become associated with this bunch.
