Republicans ready to vote (Leaders think they can keep the government open.)
Politico ^ | 2 Dec 2014 | Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan

Posted on 12/02/2014 8:12:06 AM PST by 11th_VA

... The plan was inspired by two conservative lawmakers: Florida Rep. Ted Yoho and Georgia Rep. Tom Price. The government funding portion would keep most of the government open until September 2015 but would only supply monies to the Department of Homeland Security until March. Government funding runs out Dec. 11.

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), who writes spending bills, approved of the plan.

“I think that’s a good option,” Rogers told Politico Tuesday morning. “It passes the omnibus, which we need to get Republican spin on spending plus it avoids a shutdown. And on the Homeland Security, when we do a CR, it preserves that fight until we have more troops in the Senate.”

The MenSeekingMen is learning not to speak Cruz’ name.

Giving him name recognition hands him the Presidency.

So, let the CURRENT Congress and Harry Reid fund agencies at the level THEY want for the first year of the newly elected Congress?

Nah, it’s NOT a good idea. Do a CR until March 2015.

I wouldn't be too sure on Reid. The Dems also want the Omnibus bill, which has lots of goodies for both sides. The Dems can fight in March on DHS.

We had a shutdown in 2013, which was supposed to destroy the Reps. Ted Cruz expressed his displeasure with Obamacare in his memorable filibuster. The GOP leadership was wringing its hands over it.

So in 2014, what happens? The Reps have an historic victory in the midterms with every Rep slamming Obamacare. Most Americans are against Obama's unilateral actions on amnesty. If the GOPe is truly committed to the Constitution and representative government, they should be doing everything possible to stop its implementation. We all know that once it is implemented, it will never be reversed. Amnesty is forever.

The dirty little secret is that the GOPe wants amnesty. They may disagree with Obama on process but not substance. If implementation is not stopped, we will have amnesty just like the 2012 Dreamer amnesty, the template for the current one. The Reps feckless, tepid response to the Dreamer amnesty should have provided us a clue as to how they really feel about amnesty.

On Nov. 4th the democRATs were decimated. All up and down the ticket.

Fund the government from Dec. 11th to Feb 15th. Otherwise you forfeit the power of the purse.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...

And while all of this is going on behind closed doors, the public is being distracted by Ferguson.

Someone explain to me how this is any different then what happened last year.

Last year, Reid would not allow votes on funding individual parts of the government. If this passes, the GOP can put pressure on Obama via funding of DHS. Obama won't be able to have a 'dog and pony' show of the Gov't shutdown, since only a tiny part would not get funded.

“I would like to hear from Steve King and Jeff Sessions before giving this plan a thumbs up.”

Rep King’s staffer said that this is just a “first run” of various versions being presented, or worked up.

He said that it is something that Rep King can/will support, as long as the DHS funding is appropriated month to month (which this version of the plan seems to do). He said that the MAJORITY of the Republican Reps overwhelmingly want the DHS month to month funding, in what ever CR is passed...and feels confident any final bill will be styled that way.

Praying he’s right ;-)

And if Obama vetoes the entire bill? I guess the fallback is a CR until March.

Severe error in logic...the DHS must be DEFUNDED, along with Obolacare, Amnesty and the IRS...all of them...gutted and completely defunded. When they start talking like that, they will be doing the job the American people elected them to do. Until then, they are ALL traitors to the Constitution and should be treated as such.

I have no idea why our spineless GOP is so terrified of a shutdown. Sure, all the media pundits pointed to polls showing the public blaming the GOP for the shutdown, but barely a year after the kerfuffle the GOP rode one of the largest waves in electoral history to an increased majority in the House, a nice majority in the Senate, and seldom-seen dominance in governorship and state legislatures.

Pass a CR running through January. Immediately on resumption of Congress (with expanded GOP control) pass spending bills for everything while defunding ObamaCare and his amnesty order - and maybe a few other things as well. If Obama wants to veto one or all of the measures, shutting down the leviathan, let it stay shut down. There will be few tourists at most national parks for the MSM to interview (crying kids and all) until May or later, and few veterans will being turned away from Washington memorials during the howling blizzards of February.

If it lasts several months, so be it. Even if it drags into summer, the next election won’t be until sixteen or more months.

A distinct tactical advantage to this: the government would be shuttered due to Obama’s refusal to allow ObamaCare to be defunded, during the very time period during which millions of new victims of the ACA are absorbing huge premium and deductible increases.

If such a shutdown occurs, one other tactical suggestion: Don’t surrender before the fight begins. In all previous shutdowns the GOP leadership rushed immediately to assure government employees that they would get back pay when operations resume. They should face the same prospect most private-sector taxpayers face when laid off, not an extended paid vacation. This could produce very substantial budget saving quickly. Imagine 70% or more of the federal workforce off the payroll for three months (and not writing regulation, conducting workplace investigations, harrassing farmers and ranchers, etc. etc. etc. - US productivity would soar!).

Keep this in mind: The Dems really really don’t want the government shut down for months on end. After five or six weeks it would begin to dawn on folks that the sky was not falling, and maybe the country doesn’t need an ever-increasing federal government after all.

What’s not to like? SHUT ‘ER DOWN!!!

Buncha LOSERS!

Couldn’t win a poker hand in a pre-school!

The CR should have been until January 2015, then individual bills through Sept. with the big stick focused on HHS.

Make any “shutdown” Obama’s fault.
We are NOT here to implement Obama’s dictates!

“Predict Obama won’t go for it. He will use the same argument he used during the last budget battle, namely not funding things piecemeal. The enemedia will back him.”

Before Hairy Reed was there to block everything for him, he didn’t ever have to face the option of a veto. Now he is going to get a steady diet of tough choices. I think he is a gutless liberal puke, the kind everyone wiped boogers on in school.

The skinny bastard is too worried about his place in the history books and how a veto that shuts down government. will be recorded.

I agree, completely. EVERY single Pub Rep should be told that, daily.

They ALL seem to be in favor of NOT shutting down the govt. Rep King included.

The Reps always like to postpone confrontation.

...

The GOPe likes to let the Democrats get their way, because it means more graft and corruption opportunities for everybody, including Republicans.
