Conservative Republicans are pushing back hard against House Speaker John Boehner's plan to effectively push off the battle over President Obama's immigration plan to next year in order to pass a spending bill, increasing the likelihood he'll need help from Democrats to get it through the House and Senate.
The speaker on Tuesday had put forward a plan to address two tricky issues: letting Republicans vent over the president's controversial immigration executive actions, while also backing a spending bill to keep the government running past Dec. 11, when current funding runs out.
Boehner's solution is to call a vote on a bill this week opposing and trying to block Obama's immigration orders -- though it would likely die in the Senate. Then, the House would vote next week on a bill funding the government through the full fiscal year, and funding immigration-related agencies through early next year. This would kick the fight over the president's immigration plan to 2015, when Republicans have control of both chambers.
But that's not enough for many conservatives, who want to use the current spending fight as leverage to defund the president's plan now. They complain that the planned vote this week would merely be symbolic.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., blasted Boehner's proposal in a statement late Tuesday, suggesting it violates a campaign promise by Republicans to do "everything" they can to stop executive "amnesty."

I detest Boehner with every fiber of my being.
WHO WILL STAND WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?? Republicans were elected to STOP OBAMA. MR BOEHNER, WAKE UP!
I am with you, 100%!
Boehner is the personification of everything that is wrong with the Establishment GOP. He has been an unmitigated disaster ever since WE allowed him to become House Speaker. Why this stupid bastard has been allowed to remain in this position is something that pisses me off to the max!
Politicians are not going to save America. Congressmen are not going to save America. The American government is rotten to its core. The ones that aren’t are under a constant media attack. Trumped up falsehoods calling evil good and good evil. Dragging anyone that would stand up to tyranny through the mud along with their families, friends, and anyone who supports them.
Pick a target.
Polarize.
Divide.
Conquer.
Boehner is so last century.
Pray America is waking
“vent”? How about results? Oppose illegality. Get a clue.
Boehner: “Hands up! Don’t shoot!”
The issue here really should be about timing and tactics, but Boehner is such an a** that it’s turned into a Conservative vs GOPe issue.
Deferring going after immigration while we are still in a position of weakness (now, with the Dem Senate) until we are in a position of strength (with the GOP controlled Senate) makes sense. A lot of sense.
The problem is that Boehner and McConnell have so completely wrecked any semblence of trust with Conservatives that 1) they are flailing around trying to do something ostensibly rational and sensible and 2) may be forced by Conservative pressure into doing something stupid.
They have no one but themselves to blame for this. They’ve knifed Conservatives in the back so much they they don’t deserve our trust, at least not without some demonstrable action to earn it back.
And of course there would then be no fight because...
Sen. Ron Johnson says its too late to repeal and replace Obamacare
Susan Collins Says It's Too Late To Repeal Obamacare
...it'll just be too late to do anything about it.
“Deferring going after immigration while we are still in a position of weakness (now, with the Dem Senate) until we are in a position of strength (with the GOP controlled Senate) makes sense. A lot of sense.”
I disagree. As Rush says, amnesty is irreversible as the genie is out of the battle.
Too many times have our supposed leaders kicked the can down the road, waiting for the ‘right’ time.
We have had 6 years of Obama and that is enough time.
Draw a line and stop it NOW.
That day of strength comes on January 3. There is no reason to extend that part of the budget to the end of September now. Pass a one month extension and then fight in January.
He has always been a chum of the dems. Can’t remember who said, “It’s a big club and you ain’t in it”. Get ready to bend over again America.
The GOP had better realize that if they blow this one, they are dead as a party.
I am only one among many who have had it with both parties.
Quite a few folks are coming to the point that they have to seriously consider acting like a congresscritter. By that I mean we’ll start regarding the laws just as those vermin consider laws...something to be ignored.
The nation is arming up.
And we’re p*ssed off.
We feel the same. He needs to go, but I read on another thread here that although 4 Republicans abstained from voting for him as Speaker, no one would go up against him for the position. No one even tried and that DISGUSTS me.
Didn’t I just read that Boehner caved?
George Carlin.
Very logical. A CR to fund through January 31st makes perfect sense. Let BO be the one who shuts down the government by declaring that special rights for illegal aliens is a higher priority.
Let's see if I got this right. Same old house, same old senate, same results. Democrats don't want to be the ones to shut down government so they will pass new funding, hopefully minus the immigration plan amounts requested by the administration, to Obama's desk. Then Obama will be forced veto to the budget to save his immigration plan while blaming the republicans for shutting down the government. Is that it in a nutshell?
In that case, let them start the process to defund some or all of Obama's unconstitutional order. And if Obama doesn't like it, let him veto, and shut down the national parks, monuments, government buildings, or whatever like the last time he didn't get his way. I'm for seeing some immediate results, not next year, but right now!
Boehner, get to work and lead the effort to kill the funding! Otherwise get the h*ll out of the way and let someone else lead. Ted Cruz and other conservatives are ready, able, and willing.
Don't worry, he detests us just as much.
