As a former USCG officer, I can tell you that under international law, piracy is considered a crime against humanity. All countries have jurisdiction, and the crime is considered capital.

I would pay this fine off to the Somalis in lead, or uranium.

Yeah I think the ECHR ruling is bullcrap and ought to be ignored. International maritime law is higher than ECHR.

In the end, ECHR’s ruling will result in more pirates executed at sea, if this ruling is going to be the norm. Just wipe em out out there and be done with it.

MAybe a blessing in disguise if the militaries get the “right” solution.
