Just talked to a friend of mine in cyber security with one of the world’s largest tech companies. They have been watching it and appears to definitely be a direct and very heavy attack. Appears to be originating from Japan. It has already taken down all their defense communications that are network linked. Probably not much but I imagine that would be their most sensitive/critical systems. I cannot personally confirm that but they are pretty reliable source.
Interesting post. Thanks
The kind of stuff you read on FR first.
Bump.
Another update - looks like it has started impacting part of the power grid in Pyongyang. Maybe someone will take this opportunity to cross the border and make a run towards the capital? Interesting.
“It has already taken down all their defense communications that are network linked.”
I would be concerned that the Norks might view this as blinding them prior to a real military attack. Not sure I want the norks lashing out into the dark - I have no idea what capabilities they have - but a nuke lobbed blindly southward wouldn’t be good.
Bump and thanks for posting! Very interesting. I really wonder how much their govt and military rely on the internet.
Nothing.
All critical comms are over closed networks and we won't likely know whether this attack is hitting those networks.
But it's likely it is.
And that's a risky move. They MAY believe a military attack is imminent and do something stupid.
But that's what AEGIS is for, right?

Is Sony a part Japanese company?
I would hope our defense grid is on a closed intranet.
