Tom Daschle, President Obama’s first choice to head the Department of Health and Human Resources, said that such health care rationing is essential if we are to control costs.

Central planning by the self-appointed who know what is best.

One of the most controversial features of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was the desire on the part of many of its backers to subject medical decisions to a “cost effectiveness

Many of us remember how MacNamara's cost effective war planning in Vietnam turned out. Crapola!

Whatever “quality of life” index used is just a smokescreen. Whenever government decides how resources are allocated, we can be assured that they will transfer resources from political foes to political allies or to buy votes.

The Obamacare hustle is based on the image evil Republicans turning away poor people from the entrance to hospitals. Even “Republicans” have said no one in America is callous enough to do that.

But that is exactly what Obamacare does through rationing of resources away from those not in political favor. Obamacare bureaucrats will be standing at the doors of hospitals and telling the old and disabled to turn back. Those who have paid into the system for a lifetime will be turned away in favor of the parasite class and illegal aliens. Fat people will be turned away in favor of those with AIDs, and so forth.

This is the way to defeat Obamacare. The Left-controlled media will roll out their testimonials of those “helped” by Obamacare. The Right needs to counter with personal stories of those turned away from care by grotesque Gruber bureaucrats waving their micro-simulation spreadsheets and “quality of life” curves. We have to make it a battle between real people and the heartless technocrats in the Left’s brave new world.

Good analysis. Keep it coming. Hypocrisy cannot sustain itself.

The irony of the QUALY business is that recognition of cost drives the search for less costly but still effective alternatives. Once the people running ObamaCare decide someone is too old to be worth spending money on, there's no longer any incentive to find a lower-cost treatment that still works.
