Nope. And we wouldn’t be able to put a man on the moon today either because of our fear of risk and liability.

Bingo. As for NASA, the embedded bureaucracy leaves me wondering how we could launch anything more complicated than a paper airplane today.

I always wondered - Why didn’t the USA just let the Germans and Russians bleed themselves dry? Once Hitler turned East, there was no way he was going to invade England. The fact that FDR was a proto-socialist, and many in his administration had communist sympathies speaks volumes.

The West went to war over Poland, but 5+ years later, the same politicians gave Poland - AND the entirety of Eastern Europe, to the Soviets, a force as bad as the Nazis.

In a word, no. We would have been told we need to understand the Nazi rage and that it would be racist of us to oppose the Japanese. Plus, we had FDR pushing the envelope to the left even back then.

Yes.

Because the Liberals loved WWII once their beloved Soviet Union was invaded.

In the all-consuming quest for ratings, we would have heard something like this a few days before the Invasion of Normandy: “CNN has learned exclusively that, despite bad weather, the invasion of Europe will take place on the 6th of June. Also, the site of the invasion will not be at the Port of Calais, as was generally thought, but will unfold on the beaches at Normandy. Stay tuned to CNN for continuing coverage of this important story.”

CNN would have been bitching daily about the fact the Allies haven’t opened up the Second Front to help out the Soviets.

The post WW II policy took a different direction.

Communism would be “contained” not defeated. The same with terorrists in more modern times.

Our Republican and Democrat presidents (EXCEPTION REAGAN)had no notion of defeating our enemies militarily again.

The United Nations was formed to police the world with United States signed on.

International law, rules of engagement are the order of the day.

Its not the liberals in the media fault.

Its the fault of our elite policy makers both major parties (the Uniparty) Acheson, Dulles, Rusk, McNamara, Kissinger, Brzezinski and so on.

The GOPe will install John Bolton to continue that tradition if they win the presidency. Tough talk soundbites on Fox News will continue, but there will be a halffast limited war foreign policy. Tough talk will not be matched by tough action.

I sure that if it occurred today, WWII would not be fought in the same way by the Allies. For example, I think turning German cities into firestorms would be avoided, not because we lack resolution to fight that way, but because we see that there are more effective ways of dealing with an enemy and, at the same time, we have the ability to be more precise.

NYT headlines on 12/8/41:

Improperly fused anti aircraft shells kill dozens in downtown Honolulu. Navy called to account.

I always wondered - Why didn’t the USA just let the Germans and Russians bleed themselves dry?

Our official position was essentially Isolationist until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Right after that, Germany declared war on the USA. We couldn't really ignore the fact that the Third Reich had done that.

Your; "The fact that FDR was a proto-socialist, and many in his administration had communist sympathies speaks volumes."

Indeed. The Communists used FDR's terms in office to thoroughly infiltrate our government.

I know what the men of the WWII generation were like, including my dad, who was in the army/air force during WWII. I also know what the whining, neotenous teens are like today, because I deal with classes of them daily. Everything is too much for them. They can't think their way out of a wet paper sack for the most part. They don't know how to take initiative. They cannot follow directions. Except for about 20%, who are absolutely wonderful kids who have to be a source of pride for their parents, the rest would probably be killed in battle in 10 minutes by not following orders, doing something stupid, trying to get high, etc.

I had a recent experience during a school lockdown, where it was thought that 2 masked gunmen were wandering the halls. I was locked in a room with 3 other teachers and 4 upper class high school students. I explained to the students, via a note, that they could not, under any circumstances, talk because if there were indeed gunmen wandering the halls, they would be listening for conversations which would give away positions of potential victims. What do you think happened? They had to shushed up EVERY TWO MINUTES for TWO HOURS until the lockdown was called off. Even under emergency conditions such as we experienced, they could not summon the maturity or intelligence to shut the hell up when our lives could have depended on it.

Do they compare to the similarly aged men of my father's generation? Absolutely not. Thank you libs.

I get your point, it’s a powerful image, but don’t disparage all with such a broad brush, friend.

Pajama Boy doesn’t represent ALL Americans, not by a long shot. He’s a temporary aberration.

You have only to look at our guys overseas right now, those in the combat arms branches on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq and any other place we are engaged. Our guys in Korea, waiting for NoRK Tanks to cross the DMZ are certainly not represented by Pajama Boy.

There’s still a hell of a lot of Americans ready and willing and able to fight.
