In the pursuit of utopia where there are never any hurt feelings, America’s wealthy, cosseted college campuses have given birth to the nonsense concept of microaggression, typically employed to denounce as “racist” anything someone (usually of a “protected class”) doesn’t like. The beauty of the concept is that the purported perpetrator doesn’t have to be conscious of and have any intention of bigotry.

That’s true. But, only for one side. The socialists NEVER bully. Only hateful, racsits, conservatives do any bullying. Just ask the radical left wing commie, socialist, asshats. They’ll tell you so. I’m just cruising the wrong way on that old one way street, PC Boulevard.

We live in a VERY big country. As a teenager traveling with my parents, when we stopped for refreshments, I ordered a glass of pop. I was served with what WE called a soda. I found out if you want pop, you order soda, and you get pop.
As a woman married to a soldier, we lived in Maryland where people spoke what often was the reverse of what we said back home. Or it was said with an accent indecipherable to me. I felt it was UP TO ME, the visitor to the area, to learn the local “languages” of wherever I was.
I didn’t try to change the locals way of speaking. That was MY problem, not theirs.
As I said, “It’s a BIG country.”

Being obviously ridiculous is no longer discrediting as is shown by gay marriage, white privilege, and John Boehner.
There’s a very good TED talk on how to improve the legal system. And one of the bullets is that we have to stop trying to legislate attitudes and use legislation to punish attitudes.
Another was that we need to give maximum freedom in the public space, for freedom of expression and action, because fear of legal reprisals puts restraints on everything from going on field trip hikes where a disabled kid cannot follow (so no one gets to go) to silencing speech.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me? That idea went out with the 80s. Calling someone names results in worse punishment than hitting them would.
Calling them names while hitting them results in the hitting being a hate crime.
We live in an upside down world.
So you expect the newcomers to adapt to the area to which they’ve moved?
If you could convince the immigrants to do that perhaps we wouldn’t need to press 1 for English.
