Freedom, like its close cousin, trust, once lost, is very difficult to regain. But freedom may be extended to one person at a time, much like trust, and slowly the network of supportive and reciprocated measures builds a new hegemony in the community.
The territory once known as “the United States of America” may have to balkanize into many separate communities, so this smaller circle may first rebuild the local unity, then the larger and larger unity be once again conjoined.
