Europe Too

Very similar to the UK, and similar to several other EU28 countries including Italy, Belgium, Spain and Portugal, France's elites engaged a wrongheaded, anarchic and born-to-fail “multicultural experiment' in the 1960s. In the French case this came immediately after its total defeat in France's vicious and bloody colonial war in Algeria (1956-63) aimed at keeping Algeria an integral part of the French state and nation. Today's French far-right nationalist passionara – Marine Le Pen – was a schoolgirl when her father Jean-Marie Le Pen was a French army officer in Algeria, where he lost an eye. He later bragged about his feats of torture and “elimination” of Algerian resistance fighters, already including Muslim religious cadres engaged in a fight to the death “against the white infidels”.

Jean-Marie Le Pen fought to keep Algeria a part of the French nation, that it had been since the 1830s. As part of the state and nation, Algerian French could, theoretically, circulate and live and work anywhere in France, either in “metropolitan” France or the Algerian region and its departements or districts. This of course – in theory - would not apply to citizens of an independent separate nation.

For reasons that had more to do with sentiment and atonement for the brutal excesses of the French colonial war, which killed around 500 000 Algerians and 50 000 French, the decision was made by De Gaulle to allow, in fact to encourage mass immigration from now-independent Algeria to France. Later on, this elite-atonement reflex action was backed by the “pure liberal” economic theory that mass immigration is good for any economy

Totally unlike the US state of affairs where Black Americans are loosely targeted by mostly-white American police – but both whites and blacks are immigrants to North America – the ghettoized Muslim and Black immigrant communities in Europe are facing serious challenges! If there was a growing economy, perhaps, they might have a place, but the same laisser faire that opened the flood gate for mass economic immigration also destroyed the growth economy, which might have have absorbed and integrated them. Too late now!

The last sentence makes no sense. Perhaps France was "laisser faire" on immigration, but "laisser faire" on their economy? Where the state is 55% of the economy? Where everything is centrally planned? Ridiculous.

While most Freepers would not agree with all of Charbonnier’s politics, this man is truly a hero to freedom loving people. Here in the US where political correctness is resulting in “speech codes” in universities, corporations and self censorship has become a threat to true freedom, this man’s sacrifice should be remembered and his name should be attached to an award that celebrates the courage of an individual that speaks truth to power.

If you’d have tried to sell multiculti to any country 50 years ago, they’d have told you to take a flying leap. Nations were nations and borders were borders and cultures were fine in thier own places. All this blending and blanding sure has resulted in an evolutionary leap, huh? Oh YEAH utopia is right around the blood-splattered corner! More friggin’ hatred than we’ve seen in years. Way to go socialist morons.

the Edmunds–Tucker Act of 1887 touched all the issues at dispute between the United States Congress and the LDS Church. The act disincorporated both the church and its Perpetual Emigration Fund on the grounds that they fostered polygamy. The act prohibited the practice of polygamy and punished it with a fine of from $500 to $800 and imprisonment of up to five years. It dissolved the corporation of the church and directed the confiscation by the federal government of all church properties valued over a limit of $50,000.

In July of the same year, the U.S. Attorney General filed suit to seize the church and all of its assets. The act was enforced by the U.S. marshal and a host of deputies. The act:
Dissolved the LDS Church and the Perpetual Emigrating Fund Company, with assets to be used for public schools in the territory.[9]
Required an anti-polygamy oath for prospective voters, jurors and public officials.
Annulled territorial laws allowing illegitimate children to inherit.
Required civil marriage licenses (to aid in the prosecution of polygamy).
Abrogated the common law spousal privilege to require wives to testify against their husbands[10]
Disfranchised women (who had been enfranchised by the territorial legislature in 1870).
Replaced local judges (including the previously powerful Probate Court judges) with federally appointed judges.
Removed local control in school textbook choice.[citation needed]

In 1890, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the seizure of church property under the Edmunds–Tucker Act in Late Corporation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints v. United States.

The church was losing control of the territorial government, and many members and leaders were being actively pursued as fugitives. Without being able to appear publicly, in the 1880s the leadership was left to navigate “underground”.

Following the Edmunds-Tucker Act, the LDS Church found it difficult to operate as a viable institution.

It worked with the Mormons and it is worth trying against the Moslems.

Multiculturalism is going to be an exceedingly difficult tiger to dismount, and it was meant to be - "no step back, Comrades!" They don't work, but they vote. They don't produce, but they consume. Providing this sizable population with jobs means offering them something they have no real reason to accept, and why should they? Some of them haven't had to in three generations.

Marx must be chuckling in Hell - the industrial revolution left the West with a working class that is literate and wealthy, and under classical definitions there is no real proletariat left and hasn't been for a century. France has managed to import one. The United States is working on it.

Agreed. No one should have to die for expressing themselves.

If you’d have tried to sell multiculti to any country 50 years ago, they’d have told you to take a flying leap.

And then the flippin' Nazis came along and forever ruined it. Now being against multiculturalism gets you labeled as a "Nazi." That has to stop.

Blame it on the Nazis! What kind of warped thinking is this? This is “Bush’s fault” raised to the Nth degree.

I don’t see it ending any time soon. Internal terrorist attacks will continue, their government will pay it lip-service as ‘isolated incidents’, all the while simultaneously increasing islamic importation and preventing their citizens from doing anything to fend off the invasion. Just like the illegal alien problem in the United States.

The point being is that now when somebody stands up for Nationalism and preserving Culture, they get painted as a Nazi.

It’s like calling someone a ‘racist’, it’s meant to stop the debate and to label the person as a ‘kook.’ And the Left has been exploiting this for years.

Strange twist of fate-my (deceased) uncle served in a French parachute regiment and fought in Algeria.
Even stranger, he was a former Wehrmacht noncom. I remember him visiting us once in NYC and he related how at the end of WW2 while he was in a POW camp several French officers offered him and other German eastern front veterans a choice of either enlistment in the Foreign Legion or spending the next five years working on reconstruction projects in France.
They jumped at the chance.

French comedy about multi-culturalism -- worth watching -- has a few parts that are irritating to a Catholic, but reasonable slapstick fun

The solution will occur either peacefully or, more probably, violently.

Ha! Sure. Right after political correctness dies. And the global warming scam.

Agreed.

I remember in the days after the Trade Center attacks no less an observer than Tony Snow, who I think a very great deal of, said, "The Left in this country is finished as we know it."

That hope lasted until Bill Maher got on the air and almost until the 911 Commission was formed...and that lying murderous baby-killer Bob Kerry started to attack Bush and other Republicans.

Within two years the left was back bigger and more poisonous than ever...and look where we are now.
