Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) appears to be touting the accomplishments of the new GOP-controlled Congress even before its members have gotten the chance to hammer out any legislation.
In a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday morning, the newly elected majority leader suggested that the growing signs of an economic recovery -- 5 percent GDP growth, 320,000 additional jobs in November, all-time highs in the markets on Wall Street and plunging gas prices, to name a few -- just might have something to do with the election of a Republican Congress.
"After so many years of sluggish growth, we're finally seeing some economic data that can provide a glimmer of hope," said McConnell. "The uptick appears to coincide with the biggest political change of the Obama administration's long tenure in Washington: the expectation of a new Republican Congress."
This, he added, "is precisely the time to advance a positive pro-growth agenda" that includes tax cuts, the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

That is the only reason for any economic movement. In my neck of the woods jobs are scarce and hard to find still and the prospects are not improving no matter what the Baghdad Bobs in Washington say.
He has nary a clue. That seems to be the problem with most in Washington.
The idiot is totally unaware that the leftists already played accounting tricks with the number to puff it up. Zeroheadge did a piece on it. When the growth stops, he’s going to look even more like an idiot.
If they start whacking away at the EPA, Education, etc., then maybe.
Boehner's not going to stand up against anybody but the Tea Party and the like.
Perhaps the GOPe is just trying to appeal to the LIV?
In that case, they should decry that ‘Gridlock is Good!’
Obama IS going on a three city tour to tout his accomplished economy prior to the State of the Union Address, donchaknow
Where did this idiot come from? McConnell needs to see a shrink.
The real reason for the "surge" and Mitch walked right into the trap. That number will look a lot worse next time and the Republican congress is going to take the hit.
Had a good laugh today—heard on the radio that the unemployment rate is 5.7%.
The Bush depression actually began when Nancy Pelosi took over the House.
Mitch:
You’re so stupid, you could hang yourself with a cordless phone.
In the House at least THREE GOP stood up against Bhoener. But not a single GOP Senator Challenged the leadership of Sing along with Mitch.
You get what you pay for in this case we have a lemon.
So deal with it.
I am so over having anything to do with these guys. I have voted every election since 1968 and unless the national ticket puts a conservative in POTUS position I will just vote local Jacksonville and Florida issues.

Are the republicans even going to pretend to be from a different party that the president. McConnel is trying to take credit for the economy when it is the Obamatons that are cooking the numbers and hiding the real economic pain that is out there.
The economy is not doing better.
They are releasing Mickey Mouse numbers for their Goofy agenda and small world thinking...
Right......
If that’s his comment then he has to explain 5 years in which the stock market essentially tripled. It’s a completely stupid door to open, but as far as stupidity goes, there should be no surprise.
Oh by the way....the Republicans have taken over for exactly one day.
Fricking moron.
Ok, so this looks to be partially correct: expectations of a unified GOP Congress combined with energy-related growth is providing some limited improvement. Which is being overblown because the Dems are cooking the books to make it look more substantial than it actually is.
So he’s only partially stupid.
On the upside however is getting to see the Progs go completely apoplectic over his comments, which amount to him 1) accepting their numbers and 2) employing the Progs’ own credit-taking tactics against them. So very, very amusing.
Now if his narrative sticks and the economy craters again, the GOP will take the hit. However if the Progs’ hysterical counter-narrative that Obama and the Progs’ own policies are responsible succeeds in drowning out Mitch’s, and the economy craters again, the Progs get to eat the cratering in a very big way.
Actually, the stock market is an indicator of what the future is. Most businesses expect less damage from the Marxist Party than the Communists.
Pray America is waking
Not really barry makes stuff up all the time, they have to start playing the game
