‘Fears Of Man-Made Global Warming Exaggerated’ (Indian Science Congress)

MUMBAI: Two of three scientists at a session on climate change and society at the Indian Science Congress on Tuesday felt fears of man-made global warming were greatly exaggerated. Their presence at the conference was particularly significant in light of the current 'development-versus-envir- onment' debates.

"While I agree that glaciers are melting because of global warming, if this is because of man, then what was the reason for the melting of the glaciers in the Gondwana period long before man arrived on the planet?" asked Dhruv Sen Singh, Centre of Advanced Study in Geology, University of Lucknow.

"Climate change is a natural phenomenon while pollution is caused by man. We are definitely accelerating the process of climate change, but we cannot predict the rate or extent of climate change that can be attributed to man," Singh said.

According to him, fears of climate change amount to propaganda and "unnecessarily cause panic".

I ask a version of this question all the time. I never get and answer, and the shift is usually something like, "It is worse now!"

It is a religion for the wacos, and a tool for the communists.

Unless someone has a direct line to the sun I can’t see how we would be able to affect the worlds climate.

In 1975, I remember picking up a copy of Newsweek, and the cover story was “ The Coming Ice Age”. It was being promoted by left wing environmentalists, and they gave their arguments for it. Today, the same left wingers are talking global warming, and using nearly the EXACT SAME REASONING, and causation as they used to describe the coming ice age.

‘75 was about when I was in kindergarten. That’s the time the big cooling scare was in full force. We were terrified in kindergarten. We were told that all the polution we are responsible for is cooling the planet and we are all going to starve while we shiver in freezing misery. Then...We were all going to vaporize from solar radiation because the ozone was being destroyed by our hairspray and styrafoam.
