Although we just conducted military exercises in Ukraine, it isn’t part of NATO, so there is no reason to station troops there, we do send troops to Poland, and may be positioning some there.

What's wrong with REFORGER? Preposition equipment & materiel, keep our troops in the US, let Europeans be the tripwire. I was at Hahn for two years...we joked that our life expectancy would be 15 minutes after the balloon went up. Hahn, Bitburg & Spangdahlem would each have been hit by 15-20 Sovier fighter wings.

I participated in REFORGER '77 as an augmentee. Great training, great experience with the 1st Infantry Division. Big change from air base air defense. It made me a better platoon leader.

And General Dempsey just said on Fox News that the Army may be reduced to 420,000 active duty soldiers by 2016 due to sequestration.

What’s wrong with REFORGER? Equipment in Europe, troops in the States, and both useless without the other. The aircraft bringing troops from the States would be MIG-meat.
