In the South, more on welfare, plus a higher proportion of military bases.
The Dems slam Republican-leaning states over this, when it is largely Dem constituencies on Dem welfare programs that make the states net importers of Federal $$$.

I suspect must of this can be correlated with blacks and illegals as a portion of population...
It all depends on what you choose to count.
I doubt fed payments or tax deductions to individuals and businesses in the state is counted.
Would love to see an “absolute” accounting of the federal money flow. WashPost wouldn’t though.
The states that get the most Federal revenue tend to be those that have large military bases and Indian reservations. If Social Security and Medicare outlays are included in the calculation, then add states with a lot of retirees, too.
