eading potential Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush are scheduled to meet privately later this week in Utah, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.
Former Florida governor Bush and 2012 Republican nominee Romney have grabbed recent buzz from operatives and donors aligned with the party's establishment after both said they were exploring possible 2016 presidential bids.
The New York Times, citing two unidentified leading party members, said the session was planned before Romney made a surprise announcement earlier this month to a group of donors that he was weighing a third run for the White House. The paper said Bush had sought the meeting.
Reuters could not independently verify the report. Requests for comment were not immediately returned by representatives for Romney or Bush.

Talking about how to work together.
The good news is that one will eventually turn on the other.
Yeah, I predict the lib media is gonna be beside themselves when they realize THEY are not gonna be able to dictate who the GOP pick will be. I really don’t think it’ll be either of those two.
I bet they’re making a deal now. I somehow doubt they’ll turn their guns on each other very much.
Or maybe they're so delusional that they'll scheme for a Romney/Jeb team.
“Yeah, I predict the lib media is gonna be beside themselves when they realize THEY are not gonna be able to dictate who the GOP pick will be. I really dont think itll be either of those two.”
I don’t expect either of these two will be president.
I do however expect one of them will probably get the nomination.
This meeting will be to determine which one and then they can torch the rest of the field.
Maybe. Because both of them running splits THEIR money. And that weakens either of them against the rest of the field. I’m thinking that’s what the talk is about. It seems so early to me though.
To decide which will be the P and which will be the VP on the 2016 GOP ticket?
“Maybe. Because both of them running splits THEIR money. And that weakens either of them against the rest of the field. Im thinking thats what the talk is about. It seems so early to me though.”
I’d almost bet it’s so they do’t split the big money donors.
If I had to venture a guess at the moment I’d guess that Romney gets another shot with the understanding that it’s Jebs turn next.
Looks like Christie got cut out.
I disagree that it’s too early. I’m sure they’ll also touch on which conservatives to kick a little cash to in order to make sure there are at least 3-4 more conservative candidates still in the field until after Florida.
They’re just making sure no principles remain in the party platform before the campaign starts in earnest.
Y’know, ‘get it off the table.’
Deal time. One will remain as the singular Chamber of Cronies option. Then, the rest will fight it out for the other finalist position...with Huckabee luring some gullible one-issue voters to vote for him and tilting it to the party’s pick.
Hopefully, the conservative side is prepared to play it right this time.
“with Huckabee luring some gullible one-issue voters to vote for him and tilting it to the partys pick.”
Isn’t Santorum considering another run as well?
God I hope not.........
They’re going to flip a Sacagawea dollar coin (just to be multicultural, ya know) and the loser of the coin toss has to withdraw from the running, agreeing to pick the other on as their VP nomination.
The GOPe will be elated.
We already know how nasty Romney gets when he is losing in the primaries.
Sounds about right.
And in the truly unlikely event that there’s a brokered convention (with so many candidates running, there’s a tiny chance, right?), they’ll agree to pool delegates so that they form the party’s ticket.
A dual at 3 paces.... one could only hope
“Only fools would contribute to either Santorum or Huckabee, both of whom are not limited government, free market advocates, though strong on pro-life issues. Neither did particularly well in 2012 or 2008, respectively. Rand Paul needs to keep his day job as Senator from Kentucky. The Democrats are not quite dead in the Bluegrass State, and he doesn’t have the big financial connections McConnell had. The GOPs best shots are Ted Cruz or Scott Walker”
The contributions to Huck or Santorum wouldn’t be to get them elected. It would be to keep them in the race long enough to fracture the conservative vote.
The GOPe is going to strike a deal early so as to avoid a bruising primary and not fracture their big money supporters.
I expect the conservative candidates will do about what they did in 2012 each one will take a turn being the frontrunner and then cling to the very end by which time Ronet/Bush will have it sewn up.
