Or nicotine, for that matter. Both tobacco and most alcohol products are likely to impair the user’s capabilities. However, these are also heavily taxed and somewhat restricted substances, with an exception based on long history of semi-acceptance. In addition, the production and distribution of both is through legitimate businesses, unlike street drugs.

why can’t the Government require drug testing for people they are “paying” and giving benefits?

Start with Congress.

“Allowing candidates with “real-life experience” to take compentency tests to gain teaching licenses”

Ooooo golly! I can hear the screaming already from the teacher’s unions. Talking about poking a rabid dog with a stick LOL!

How will we pay for this? How about with the money we’ll save not giving benefits to drug abusers?

I’m with Walker on this. Now, if we can only get him to get behind Right to Work.

I don't see the relevance of these points for employability.

Maybe I missed something.

Are you saying if you drink or smoke then you should be unemployable?

I'm saying that the ability of the legal recreational drug alcohol to render one unemployable is at least comparable to the abilities of illegal drugs to do so, so alcohol use is as relevant as illegal drug use to whether one should be eligible for welfare.

I tend to agree. I think one argument is, if you are on welfare then you don’t use my money to buy drugs. Same goes for alcohol. Tobacco too.

But that does send you down a slippery slope.

At least booze and tobacco are legal. If the takers are using pot/coke/crack etc. then we are subsidizing the illegal drug trade.

Personally, I don’t really care what you do or put into your body. As long as you don’t hurt anyone else. Just don’t use my money to do it.
