Evolution is about survival of the fittest species for a particular environment, not survival of the best killing machine.
Unless by killing machine you mean the beast that most efficiently hunts and enjoys the meat, then it’s true. Wolves could outdo coyotes with their group hunting structure, until humans hunted them out, allowing coyotes to win by default. But ordinarily, wolves trump coyotes in terms of who gets the bacon.
