I thought it was the victims who placed the ad, that they were looking for a 66 Mustang convertible. And the guy responded via throwaway cell phone. Looks like they arrested him. At least that’s how I read it in another earlier story.

Yes. The couple placed the ad. The perp responded using a burner phone, or at least the last call the victims made/received was to/from that phone, according to an article I read earlier. They were able to trace the burner to the perp.
