Will interstellar space travel save humanity? Scientists predict artificial homes in space will have to a become a reality - and say warp drives could be the answer The vast distances between solar systems combined with the speed-of-light limit puts severe constraints on the realities of space travel This could be overcome using some form of worm hole or warp drive Another world would likely have an environment that is unbreathable Terraforming is an option, but this would be challenging and expensive Interstellar-style spinning habitats would be a more sensible option

For low-budget, it was a great concept. I rather enjoyed it. A friend of mine gave me the DVD collection of the series. I could see this done really slick with today’s production values.
Faster than light travel is a theory fraught with all sorts of intractable problems, Star Trek notwithstanding. The bottom line is it would take over 30,000 years to get to the nearest star at the current top speed that we’re capable of.
RE Picture:
Reminds me of an old song by Kansas: “Icarus: Borne On Wings of Steel” from the album “Masque”.
Great guitar song...
It’s all about impeedence man, all about impeedence.
Like many early Sci Fi tv shows, the ideas were there but budgets, scientific knowledge, and production capabilities weren’t.
Buck Rogers was talked about being restarted a few years back. Erin Gray at the last DragonCon I went to then, said it was being pitched around but that’s the last I heard.
Space 1999 got a demo called Space 2099 with a ton of digital rework made it a lot more futuristic and sensible.
“...We only lack the will to do it......
WhiskeyX, You lead; we’ll follow. Also... you put up the funds.
We have to pay for welfare, buy votes, and reach out to Muslims first and foremost Dave.
If technology gets so advanced we have warp drive then I don't see why we wouldn't have the technology to negate all this CLIMATE CHANGE (yes that's why the article says we have to take to the stars) damage (terraform Earth!!), if it were real that is.
In other words this article is the scientific equivalent of mast**bating to Star Trek and then going out for brunch at Howard Johnson's.
It’s not a comic book plot, it’s reality. Eventually, one way or the other, the rock WILL become uninhabitable. Eventually, one way or the other, the whole solar system WILL become uninhabitable. If we don’t have a self sustaining subsection of humanity elsewhere when those days come none of what we did matters.
I would love to see a Buck Rogers remake—however, call me crazy, but I would love to see it done like the early comic strips where it’s more steam-punk and they were fighting Chinese warlords with advanced technology, but we know that’ll never happen now.
Maybe we can use teleporter pods... Just make sure there’s no insects onboard when your DNA is disassembled and reassembled..
Ask Jeff Goldblum about THAT little... mishap...

It didn’t end well...
” Human colonization of space habitats is very feasible. We only lack the will to do it and do it now.”
If the GOP Establishment and Obama have their way, this will indeed become necessary.
I wonder why his DNA only merged with the fly and not the myriad of dust mites that are everywhere, not to mention bacteria. ;p
THE DUST MITE, doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
It started with floatng cities off of the coast of Africa that produced power and protien from the sea, and ended with “Bifour” bridges across the galaxy.
I read this about twenty years ago.
RE THE DUST MITE:
I dunno, brother.. I saw the NatGeo special years ago about “Dinosaurs living on your eyelashes”.... They’re pretty scary little critters...
MILLIONS of them, living right on you, next to you, off of you, and WITH you...
Brrr... sorta like liberals...
” then going out for brunch at Howard Johnson’s. “
Is there one still in business?
Rubber clams/
Here’s “Star Trek: Voyager’s” rip off of “The Fly”
2 crew members and a flower are combined into one being, naturally the flower becomes a pattern on his shirt for some reason.
Teleportation, very dangerous.
Hotels, yes. Restaurants, I believe there is only one or two that still have the name.
But there is one on every street corner in the candyland dream world that some people choose to live in.
Wow...
The flower pattern was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tacky... clashed with ALL the decor on the ship!
Can’t have THAT.... Picard would be appalled...
