They’re practicing law without a license or state approval.

Texas has been aggressive about shutting this down in the past.

They should do so now. The intent here is to start small and then expand it until it’s a fait accompli, and “too big to shut down”.

someone should start a fundamentalist mormon court that allows plural marriages and see how fast it takes Texas to shut them down.

Regulator,

Thanks for finding this!

This info needs to be sent.to Cruz and Abbott.

And to all the Texas state legislators.

Well, technically they are practicing law, in a system that is not recognized in this state...

Since it is not recognized, and the “system” is based more upon a religious faiths principles, then it is technically non0binding other than to the parties involved...

If this process wants to be recognized and made official, there are a lot of things that have to happen legally, at both the state and Federal level...

It is not something that is going to effect most people in a forum like this...

If for some reason you are somehow called by this “system”, either as a party to, or a witness to some violation of this “systems” parameters, then you, a citizen, not of that faith (religion) can certainly refuse to appear, and no legal binding summons can make you appear before that tribunal...

As it stands now in this country...

The best way to not allow it to get any further, is to refuse it, not recognize it, and hope the dunderheads we elect into office feel the same...

IIRC, there are people (US citizens) in our Asian communities that adhere to a counsel of elders in some densely Asian populations areas that go to have “issues” resolved...

None of that legally binding in our conventional legal system of laws, unless both parties agree to that ruling of those elders...

Knowing that this cultural/religious system is in practice by many different ethnicities does not cause me too much concern at this time...

If as result (punishment) of a ruling of a system like this violates our existing laws... Then that’s when our system kicks in...(i.e.: homicides, body mutilations, servitude, etc etc etc)
