CDC warns of 'large outbreak' of measles

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Tom Frieden on Sunday warned that the U.S. could see a "large outbreak" of measles.

"We are very concerned by the growing number of people who are susceptible to measles, and the possibility that we could have a large outbreak in this country as a result," Frieden said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

There are at least 102 reported cases in 14 states, according to the CDC. Frieden said that the U.S. is "likely to see more cases."

Frieden said there is "aggressive public health action" to identify those with measles, isolate those sick and quarantine those who have been exposed.

But he said the best way to prevent the spread of measles was vaccination.

Frieden said despite the U.S.'s 92 percent vaccination rate, there is growing evidence more parents are not vaccinating their children.

"What we’ve seen is, as over the last few years, a small but growing number of people, have not been vaccinated. That number is building up among young adults in society, and that makes us vulnerable," he said.

Frieden acknowledged that some parents are concerned about the safety of vaccines, or think measles no longer exists.

"One in six kids could have a fever ten days after, but the vaccine is safe and effective. And for those parents that may think that measles is gone, it’s still here, and it can be quite serious," he said.

Frieden also appeared on ABC's "This Week," urging parents to vaccinate their children.

"What you do for your own kids doesn't just affect your family. It affects other families as well," he said. "The more kids who are not vaccinated, the more they're at risk and the more they put their neighbors' kids at risk as well.”

Health Official Says Measles Outbreak Came from Overseas

Some had speculated that the measles had come from an illegal immigrant or foreign visitor and now a health official is confirming the likelihood of that speculation.

“We don’t know exactly how this outbreak started but we do think it was likely a person infected with measles overseas,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday.

No, not “overseas” - OVER LAND - to the immediate south of the USA to be exact, folks who were literally railroaded here unimpeded from Mehico .... just another form of Bio-terrorism our PINO is perpetrating on the American sheeple.

Has there been any transparency for where
infected illegal “immigrants” quartered
by Obola, with the licking consent of the 113th Congress,
were put, yet?

If they truly “don’t know” what’s going on here at the CDC, they should all be fired and imprisoned as a real danger to the Public.

American citizen kids going to school have to have vaccines. This is due only to the swarm of illegals.

Some of this is probably illegals. And some of it is all those liberals who refuse to vaccinate their kids.

If a pregnant woman contracts measles there is a high risk that her child will have serious birth defects.

I disagree. As much as it makes sense, seems logical, you are ignoring two important items.

1 - The CDC rep said overseas, and he said it because that is exactly what he meant. IMHO, it is because they have identified the 'strain' and know exactly where that strain originates.

2 - South America isn't the only place that children don't get vaccinations. They don't get them in most of the middle eastern nations either. THE PRESIDENT just arranged for 75,000 Syrian Muslims to be flown in to our country (locations to be settled unspecified as yet). Tens of Thousands from other M.E. countries have already been brought in. Refugees have been coming here from Africa and just about anywhere else you can name.

just another form of Bio-terrorism our PINO is perpetrating on the American sheeple.

That, I agree with.

I understand why the doctor would say this as the baby’s newborn immunities may not be strong enough yet. Is he speaking out about the source of the measles in Phoenix is he as clueless as the CDC? Poor dear daddy may be a carrier from the classroom. This is so awful I can’t stand it. These are criminals are risking the lives of our children and do not care what happens.

While ebola strikes more fear into our hearts, measles is much, much, much more contagious.

Ah, Frieden of the CDC Frieden, huh. Frieden who hadn’t bothered to have the proper Ebola protocol at all US hospitals and gave me my tag line. Yeah, that Frieden. But now he’s all hyper about measles. Either he’s getting a kickback from the vaccine or he knows the outbreak is out of control.
