I don’t vaccinate my daughter either...we’ve talked about we may not always have the choice, but I’d rather have the real diseases and get forever immunity anyway.
I’m so tired of the fear mongering and group think that on this one thing the government really knows best.
Question is, when your kid gets the measles, will you come here and whine about illegals?
“Id rather have the real diseases and get forever immunity anyway.”
Please explain how not vaccinating your kids impact your having the real disease?
I sometimes feel so old, and wonder how I survived at all.
In the 50’s, every kid was EXPECTED to catch chickenpox, mumps, and measles. In fact, if one kid came down with any of those during the summer, there was frequently a ‘party’ held. This made sure all the other kids got sick before the school year started. And yes, I've had all three.
We rode bicycles with no helmets, caught all the childhood diseases, played on playgrounds with merry go rounds and high slides -
how any of us survived is a miracle. And even stranger yet, people in my age group tend to have the best attendance records at their jobs. How can it be explained?
Yup, it is forever.
I have to assume that you never had the REAL diseases nor saw the effects of complications arising from the REAL diseases.
We, of the generation that had the real diseases, saw the birth defects caused by rubella during pregnancy, saw the wasting limbs left by polio (and the pictures of kids in iron lungs), gladly had our children vaccinated and were thankful that there were finally vaccines to eliminate these vile diseases.
I dont vaccinate my daughter either...weve talked about we may not always have the choice, but Id rather have the real diseases and get forever immunity anyway.
Do you feel the same way about polio? Just rather your daughter get the REAL disease?
During the late 50’s and early 60’s twice as many children in the US died from measles as from polio.
” real diseases and get forever immunity anyway.”
The good thing about your position on this is that if your children die from preventable disease, they also get “forever immunity” so really, it’s win-win.
Id rather have the real diseases and get forever immunity anyway.
There is a health risk associated with getting those diseases. They are not benign. They can put some people in the hospital and even kill them.
My step father had the mumps as a child and was sterile as an adult. He was told it was a direct result. My uncle had polio as a child and is barely able to walk as an adult. The flu epidemic of 1918 killed my grandmother’s grandfather and 2 year old brother.
Also there is the lost productivity associated with missed school days and missed work days. It does take a toll. I vaccinated my kids (with trepidation and after extensive research) and my sister did not. We both had our reasons and neither of us is judgmental of the other for our choices.
This is not an attempt to advocate either for or against mass vaccination, but I do feel that it is important to keep the cost of having the diseases sweep through the population in perspective. We haven’t had to pay that price in a long time thanks to vaccination programs, so maybe we have forgotten.
I almost died from the measles and my SIL has had life-long effects from the measles. My mother almost died when she had measles at 40. I had an uncle and a friend crippled by polio. I remember several babies dying of Diphtheria. These were all people I knew, we didn't have 24/7 news at the time. Less than five years ago a friend of ours got Chicken Pox from his children and almost died when his brain swelled. He lost his business because of being out of commission for over a month. It was inevitable that this would happen, not just because of the illegals but because global travel has also increased at the same time as vaccination has waned. It really isn't fear mongering when the effects of the disease are potentially deadly or crippling. I know that medicine in general has also advanced and those chances of death and crippling are much less likely than when I was a child. After having had Shingles I would surely immunize my kids against Chicken Pox I would never want them to hurt that bad.
What about your daughter giving it to other people. What about those undergoing chemotherapy or babies too you g to be vaccinated? By the time she gets visibly sick, how many people would your daughter expose.
