IRS Confirms Abortions are Eligible for a Tax Deduction

Here’s something from the “Did you know that?” category. Did you know that abortions are apparently eligible for a tax deduction? That appears to be true, so says the IRS.

From the Washington Examiner, in a list of odd tax deductions:

Have an abortion, get a tax deduction! How strange that pro-abortion advocates aren’t using this as a selling point. Hmmm.

Oh, and while they hyperventilate over Hobby Lobby not wanting to provide every type of birth control without a co-pay, it turns out that birth control pills can be deducted if prescribed by a doctor.

Also, you can deduct the purchase of pregnancy test kits and vasectomies.

So what does the IRS say about deducting the cost of killing your child?

“You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for a legal abortion,” it says.

My daughter was doing her taxes and told me about this. I was shocked, though I know I shouldn't have been.

I'm pretty sure abortions have been tax-deductible for years!

"Tax deductible medical expenses are very broad. To see how broad, read Halby v. Commissioner, where a 78-year-old lawyer claimed medical deductions for therapeutic “treatments” from prostitutes. He lost but is appealing. Few taxpayers have that much chutzpah."

(At least the gimmeecrats who are much more likely to get an abortion, are much less likely to need a tax deduction!)

Medical expenses are only deductible to the extent they exceed 10% of your AGI. Few taxpayers are able to meet this minimum.

20 pieces of silver.

But when the bill comes due for such a horrid act, no amount in the universe will pay off the man upstairs.

I do not agree with abortion, but I don’t think we want the IRS determining what medical expense is deductible or not.

Then face-lifts should be tax-deductible.

No, cosmetic surgery (elective) is not deductible.

Medical and Dental Expenses
Orthodontia falls under the Internal Revenue Service’s category of Medical and Dental Expenses. These expenses are tax deductible provided they are incurred for the purpose of preventing, diagnosing, treating, curing or mitigating a disease or medical condition of the body. Deductible orthodontia expenses include professional fees paid to the orthodontist and other dental practitioners, the cost of supplies, equipment, anesthesia, prescription medications and diagnostic services.

Adoptions are not deductible (or at least didn’t used to be).
