Is age the issue?

it seems the dispute is raised over the 12 month age of the infant. Why not just wait to two or three or even four years old? Does that matter?

Age at vaccination seems to play a role but it is bigger than that. Excerpt from the article follows
CDC Whistleblower: CDC Concealed Data on MMR Vaccine Linking it to Autism
In one the biggest stories in the past ten years that the mainstream media did not cover in 2014, was the story of Dr. William Thompson, a senior epidemiologist at the CDC who co-authored and published research on the MMR vaccine for the CDC back in 2004, and his decision to become a whistleblower and reveal data that was concealed by the CDC linking the MMR vaccine to autism among African American boys. His telephone conversations with Dr. Brian Hooker were recorded, and released to the public:

I’m for vaccines but have concerns about those that combine several diseases in one.

Back in the day, there wasn’t as much international travel so diseases didn’t spread so far or so quickly as they do today. Add to that the open borders, visas for everyone and bio terrorists, it’s a more important than ever to protect ourselves. It’s also important that there be more safety protocols and quit pushing those vaccines which aren’t effective. This year’s flu shot was a bust as is the whooping cough and don’t get me started on Gardasil.

Congressman Bill Posey has read the CDC Whistleblower documents and “demanded, during a half-hour radio interview, transparency about the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and its handling of vaccine safety studies, stressing that the incestuous relationship between the CDC and vaccine makers affects the nations most precious resource, which are children.”

Quoting from the article “Posey didn’t hold back when he criticized current and past officials, including Dr. Poul Thorsen, about the former CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding who moved on to become pharma giant Merck’s Vaccine President, as well as the CDC’s current spokesperson on autism and vaccines, Dr. Coleen Boyle.” Linked here http://nsnbc.me/2014/04/17/congressman-blasts-cdc-incestuous-relationships-vaccine-makers/

In case you are wondering who Paul Thorsen is, “One such liar is Dr. Poul Thorsen, a Danish scientist who was indicted for stealing millions of dollars from the CDC and using it to cover up vaccine dangers. Thorsen, as you may recall, was heavily involved in producing a stream of fraudulent studies that supposedly “disproved” the now-evident link between vaccines and autism. The CDC has also continually cited Thorsen’s studies as “evidence” that vaccines are safe, declaring the debate to be over in light of their findings.

But, one by one, these and various other studies, including a prominent one published in the journal Pediatrics, are being called into question due to fraud and author conflicts of interest. And to make matters worse, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has yet to even follow through with its indictment of Thorsen, who continues to produce phony studies from his cozy position at Sygehus Lillebaelt Hospital in Kolding, Denmark.”

It matters a lot, actually.

There is a balancing act between vaccinating the infant as soon as possible to teach its immune system how to respond to the disease, and waiting until maternal antibodies that interfere with vaccination clear out of the infant's body sufficiently to allow the vaccine to work.

Infants are born without immune systems, which develop as they grow. You want to vaccinate them as soon as possible to train their immature immune system to recognize deadly diseases so that if they are exposed to those diseases, they have the best chance possible at being able to fight them off.

Maternal antibodies that infants receive from their mothers during gestation and nursing degenerate over time. So, even though maternal antibodies against measles may not be sufficient to protect the infant from dying of measles if it is exposed, they are sufficient to interfere with the measles vaccine. So the infant is vaccinated at 12 months, to give time for maternal antibodies to clear. Until it is vaccinated, however, it is at risk of being exposed to potentially fatal measles. As long as everyone around that infant is vaccinated, that child remains safe. But let one person incubating measles walk through Disneyland, and you happen to visit the same day--you may very well see your infant end up in ICU fighting for its life.

If you wait until a child is 3 or 4 years old before giving the measles vaccine, you are unnecessarily prolonging the time that the child could be exposed to measles (which can kill or permanently disable) at a time when its immune system is still highly vulnerable and not quite capable of fighting off a serious disease.

People with measles are contagious for a couple of days before the symptoms appear. They remain contagious for over a week. You do not have to be physically near them to catch measles--it spreads through the air, and remains in the air for hours after a sick person has been present.
