1934...Federal Firearms Act... taxed machine guns and sawed-off shotguns...

1938 — National Firearms Act, the most damaging piece of legislation probably in the entire history.... set up Federal FIrearms Dealers who had to keep records for the government and were prohibited from selling to certain persons, etc.

so i guess we can blame FDR?

If you want to go back that far as to government insults on a Constitutional edict so be it. However I believe what has been showing up in the last 10-20 years is much more of a danger to the right to bear/have arms.

Didn’t Reagan sign the bill that outlawed private ownership of any machine gun manufactured after 1986? What part of the 2nd Amendment did he not understand?
