There is probably some truth here.
Unlike ISIS, The Muslim Brotherhood and The Current President of the United States who are all Sunni, the people of Iran are mostly the more moderate Shia. As I understand it, the Sunnis believe in the strict interpretation of the Koran which not only permits beheadings and the like but in fact specifies them. The Shia, not so much.
Sunnis regard Shiites as innovating liberal apostates.

You got the Shi’ites all wrong. They’re stricter in interpretations of both Koran and Hadith, and the only bone of contention with the Sunni is over qualifications of who ought to lead the Caliphate, the Shi’ites believing that only a direct descendant of Mahomet can be Caliph.
The fact that Obama is kissing up to the Iranian Twelver regime ought to say it all.
I suspect the Iman’s message is directed at Obama and Jarrett in order to give them talking points.
