The lethal political ledge Jeb Bush must navigate
IBD ^ | 2/19/2015 | ANDREW MALCOLM

So far in the 2016 presidential race -- and we are not yet very far into it -- Jeb Bush has been the key player. His December announcement of interest completely changed the timetable of the entire field of wannabes. He's already ahead in some key state polls like New Hampshire, even before announcing a candidacy.

And his fundraising prowess is apparently off-and-running, though actual numbers won't be available until mid-July's report.

And while many candidates must plead with news media for coverage, the free publicity that is any campaign's lifeblood, reporters and cameras flock to every Jeb Bush appearance. That kind of independent scrutiny can, of course, be dangerous, witness Scott Walker's flub on evolution in London and the vaccination stumbles of Chris Christie and Rand Paul.

Wednesday Bush spoke in Chicago at the Council on Global Affairs offering some of his opening foreign policy thoughts, much as he did last month in Detroit on the economy. "The great irony of the Obama presidency is this," Bush said. "Someone who came to office promising greater engagement with the world has left America less influential in the world."

But the Chicago speech also revealed the trickiest part of Bush's path to the GOP's nomination in Cleveland just 518 days from tonight. The public knows the name, but not the man. How does the son and brother of presidents use the strength of the family name while setting himself apart as an individual?

The trickiest part of Jeb Bush's bid to get the GOP nomination is Jeb Bush. The easiest part is the GOP.

He’s going to propose an end to the unconstitutional existence of Social Security.

Just kidding.

The left hates him....the right hates him....the middle hates him. Only the GOP Establishment/crony corporatists like him. 80%% of the country can’t be wrong : )

Jeb would alienate the conservative base while not appealing to crossover Dem voters - why vote for Dem lite when they can vote for the real thing. He may be able to win in the primaries but would be a disaster in the general election.

What a stupid article! Essentially all Jeb has to do is be a different kind of Bush in order to win? With all that money and de facto endorsement from Fox News he will be hard to beat.

Unlike Bush I and Bush II, Jeb seems to have an arrogant streak. I never really bought into the idea that Bush II was cocky.

We're gettin' the old "B" product being SOLD by an "A" marketing team" stage play.

They're correct when they say "NO MORE BUSHES" or "STAY OUT DA BUSHES."

As I said, I think the most difficult part of Jeb Bush running is the substance of Jeb Bush and the easiest will be the substance of the GOP.

I used to think people were wrong about Republicans not wanting to win Presidential elections.

Now I see the light :-(

Bridgekeeper: “Stop. Who would be the nominee must answer me these questions three, ere the RNC he see.”

Bridgekeeper: “What... is your name?”

“John Ellis Bush.”

Bridgekeeper: “What... is your quest?”

“To conquer the world for multinational corporations.”

Bridgekeeper: “What... is your position about illegal immigration?”

“I like it. The more the better!”

“Auuuuuuuugh!!!” (As Jeb Bush is thrown into The Gorge of Political Despair).

After that data leak, this CLOWN is still a contender?

God, Sarah Palin is the reason I voted in 08.

Ryan (before I knew anything about him) was the reason I voted in 12.

Any male R will lose to any female D in 16. The sheep want to vote vagina this time.

It's not "just" 518 days. That's a year and a half, IOW, an eternity in politics.

What appears possible today will be beyond imagining in 518 days, and vice-versa.

It's just more BS Bush propaganda.
