That is the straw man argument presented by the constitutionally clueless. According to Thomas Jefferson, there was “a long-train of abuses and usurpations.” He lists some of those abuses at the end of the Declaration. One in particular should ring familiar to freedom lovers:
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”
