US job market faces hurdles even with 5.5 pct. unemployment

Unemployment in the U.S. has dropped to a seven-year low of 5.5 percent—a level normally considered the mark of a healthy job market. Yet that number isn’t as encouraging as it might sound.

Those trends suggest that the job market, while improving rapidly, isn’t quite as healthy as it looks.

That complicates the Federal Reserve’s task of figuring out when the economy has strengthened enough to withstand higher interest rates. The Fed is considering a rate increase as early as June. …

I know many folks working off book (less then minimum wage) just to make ends meet. Their unemployment has long run out and they are on the government dole (EBT, etc).

I doubt these folks are counted.

It all depends on what the meaning of the word job is.

How about “spirit-sapping, mind-numbing drudgery that under-values my talents and over-values my patience”? ;’)

In 2007-2008 the leftwing media were hanging George Bush in effigy when the unemployment rate was 5.5%. Double standards? Nah!

5.5% my ass.

If everyone is back to work, who is getting all this welfare money? The lies never end with this president.

93.7 million Americans are now “not in the job market” and excluded from this complete.

That number has been going up, month after month, after month.

In days gone by. 5.5% was full employment. America is now at or very near full employment.

The 5.5 % include those between jobs and those that are chronically unemployed. In days gone by, at 5.5 % it was necessary to wink at illegals to insure there were enough workers.

Obama is a plague that must be eradicated

How can the media keep a straight face and pretend to be serious while reporting the lies about unemployment for so many years during the Obama admin.?

Real unemployment (U6) has steadely gotten worse under Obama. Over 40% of able males are without jobs.
