Using that logic, we should not punish murderers at all. We shouldn't be locking them up for life because "Gods decreed punishment for that criminals specific crimes and murder was fully carried out and exhausted 2000 years ago on the body of Jesus Christ as he hung on the cross."
If fact if Jesus Christ took on the punishment for all crimes at the cross, then we shouldn't even have jails. Who is man to punish man for sins against man?
Your logic is simply not logical.
I’m against punishment by death. It doesn’t mean one shouldn’t have consequences for what they do. It simply means the “punishment” part has been taken care of. People seem to think punishment=consequences, but they are not the same thing.
Just and effective consequences are incarceration for reasons that include restraint (protecting society from dangerous criminals), deterrence, restoration where possible, voluntary rehabilitation, and forced productivity to pay one’s way through their stay at the Big House.
“Your logic is simply not logical.”
Agreed. He reminds me of Pete & Delmar from “Oh Brother Who Art Thou”, who think, just because they got baptized, the state won’t be pursuing them as escaped fugitives anymore:
PETE
The preacher said it absolved us.
EVERETT
For him, not for the law! I’m
surprised at you, Pete. Hell, I gave
you credit for more brains than
Delmar.
DELMAR
But there were witnesses, saw us
redeemed!
EVERETT
That’s not the issue, Delmar. Even
if it did put you square with the
Lord, the State of Mississippi is
more hardnosed.
