In the early ‘70’s I was a clerk in a grocery store near the projects. The people who paid with cash (no credit cards then) usually bought the cheapest meat. The people who paid with food stamps bought most of the steaks. I now know they were selling the steaks at cents on the dollar so they could buy liquor and drugs. That game still goes on today. I had a renter move out in August and leave the refrigerator stacked with steaks. The power was off. What did she take? The beer.

Now they buy a lot of convenience foods (like frozen sausage biscuits) so they can sell them.
