CVNs exist to project power, there is no other asset that comes close in that regard. Vulnerable? What isn’t, but combined arms used properly mitigates vulnerability. As I said before, the MBT and the surface warship were both declared indefensible death traps decades ago, yet we continue to use both to great effect. As demonstrated in conflict, this is not because MBTs and ships are themselves that hard to destroy, but because combined arms tactics employed properly are very effective.
