France Says it Wanted a Better Deal

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who represented France in the nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, revealed on Friday that his nation had rejected an original version of the deal reached the day before for not being "solid enough."

In an interview with Europe 1 radio cited by Fox News, Fabius said he had tried to hold out for stronger terms, but when the Iranian delegation threatened to leave the talks he was forced to capitulate.

France wants a strong deal "to prevent other countries in the Gulf such as Saudi Arabia from embarking on nuclear proliferation," Fabius said.

Speaking about the framework deal that was reached in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday, the foreign minister called it a "very important" step, but said "the end of the road is the end of June," by which time a final deal is to be reached.

Fabius's comments come after the Wall Street Journal released an in-depth report Thursday night, citing numerous current and former US representatives in the negotiations, and showing how US President Barack Obama's administration gradually gave up on its goals during the course of the talks from September 2013.

The White House originally aimed at convincing Iran to take apart much of its nuclear infrastructure, but Iran responded firmly in the negative.

Weak tea. If they wanted a better deal, they should have held out for one or no deal at all. The US was the real heavy weight enemy at the table and Obama has given Iran all they wanted and more while propagandizing the deal as a great accomplishment for the West. Agreement to this deal by Western countries is a suicide pact.

France, you don’t get off the hook so easily. So what if Iran walked away? You are saying you would rather nukes proliferate in the middle east than to allow Iran to walk away? What a poofter!

I suppose your ancestors allowed the Germans to seize their homes, rape their women and kill French Jews because they threatened to walk away if they weren’t allowed to?

One of the few things more spineless than a French diplomat is the current US President.

This is where I’m baffled. Of course Iran has a right to nuclear power. Its enemies seem to be using the threat of a nuclear weapon to deny them that.

If they keep this up, I might begin to like the French.

First off Iran wants nuclear weapons.

And so how come Iran gets Nuclear power stations while here in the US Nuclear power stations are being shut down.

I am serious. Why shouldn't Iran have nuclear power and all of the other positive benefits of nuclear research? Israel should want to contribute to suggestions to allow Iran to have that without the threat of developing a bomb.

Sorry. I just don't get it that we have Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as allies. We've picked our friends for all the wrong reasons. Maybe the US should just stay out of the ME (hoping the damage we've already done is repairable) and let them sort it out.

Because Iran primarily wants to enrich uranium in order to produce nuclear weapons. It is that simple. Any other explanation is a ruse.

Maybe the US should just stay out of the ME (hoping the damage we've already done is repairable) and let them sort it out.

As far as all the damage the WE have done, what are you talking about? The whole area was a $H%#hole before we got there, is the same now, and will be forever in the future. Don't lay any guilt on me. It is islam, not our fault.

What does Obama do in June when the sanctions are lifted and Iran reneges on the “agreement”?

Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Tunisia and even Yemen were all better off before the US instigated regime change. Christians weren’t being slaughtered. Those countries need dictators who rule with a heavy hand, otherwise there’s a vacuum which is filled by maniacs.

US did not initiate regime change in Tunisia, Yemen or Syria.
