Wind power is expensive because it requires two sources of power a primary and a backup fossil fuel plant for when the wind is not blowing. Really expensive.

I have a small solar power systems for emergencies. It runs my emergency ham radio station and a few lights and a fan. And a computer and internet router. I suppose I have that so I can update if power goes out. It runs my stuff most of the night. Unless I get sunlight, I'm stuck in the water without a paddle. Sure, it's great while the sun shines, and for a 24 hour period without sun, but I have a regular generator to recharge the battery after voltage dips below 12.

And that's a small emergency system without any fancy distribution.

Pricey, but I like to watch the weather here.
