How many times do I need to repeat myself? I have said, multiple times in this thread, that the Assistant Chief was wrong on the protocol. She was wrong. But, there is no evidence whatsoever that her intent was to be disrespectful (and, in fact, had she intended disrespect, she probably would not have been standing at attention the whole time). There is a huge difference between messing up the protocol and disrespecting the flag.

Based on other articles, her department has supported her, saying that the department allows officers to follow the military protocol in connection with ceremonies like the one here.
One question for you - what was the Fraternal Order of Police president who created this controversy doing during the pledge? That’s right, he was recording this video. So.... just a bit of hypocrisy there, don’t ya think?
She has been with the department over 30 years, and is the assistant police Chief, what are you basing your claim of simple ignorance on?
You think this is the first time that she has ever been exposed to the simple formality of the Pledge of Allegiance and other little routine ceremonies of the police?

The fact that the department has publicly come out and defended her, noting that officers are permitted to follow the military code in connection with honor guard.
Also, the fact that this whole controversy was initiated by the head of the police union (who, again, was himself recording the video during the pledge - which seems as disrespectful, if not moreso, than standing at attention). Who knew so many Freepers would come down on the side of the union head?

People have been refusing to make the pledge since it was written. For any number of legit reasons.
In Islam you cannot swear to an oath or pledge allegiance to anything other than your religion. I would think some of the hard core Christians around here would understand that.
