Wednesday was Anggie Godoy's 14th day since eating her last meal: French fries covered with grilled meat, cheese and guacamole. She hasn't had anything to eat since then - just water.
"There are days where it's good and there are days where it's bad," she said about her fast. But what keeps her going is knowing that she's fighting for something just as critical to her survival.
The 19-year-old daughter of Guatemalan immigrants is among a group of women who are close to completing a 15-day fast in Los Angeles. They hoped to persuade city council members there to raise the minimum wage of $9 an hour to $15 an hour. They planned to break the fast Thursday.
The fast began April 16 with a core group of eight women—most of them Latinas. Godoy is one of the core fasters. She makes $9 an hour working as a cashier at a McDonald's. She uses that money to help her mother pay for rent and to support her two younger siblings, which makes it difficult to save for college.

The city council doesn't pay wages, business owners do....and they are willing to pay you what you are worth.
If, through your efforts they can make $18.00 per hour...then, and only then, can they afford to pay you $15.00 per hour.
If a salesman earns business worth $100,000.00 to his company, he cannot exxpect them to pay him $125,000.00 per year.
It just doesn't work that way...get an education, learn a trade, look presentable...learn to speak proper English, get a respectable haircut/style, dress appropriately (even if you have to get your clothes from Goodwill)...
stop whining that the world isn't fair (it isn't) and get off your dead ass and do something to show a potential employer that you are WORTH $15.00 per hour.
More specifically, I wonder how much larger Ms Godoy’s take home pay would be if California’s corrupt federal senators had not helped the corrupt House to pass unconstitutional appropriations bills, bills which Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers?
In fact, the Supreme Court has not only clarified that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate intrastate commerce, but also that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue which Congress cannot justify under its Section 8-limited powers.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear so that voters like Ms Godoy don’t continue to unknowingly shoot their feet off by sending bad-apple senators to DC who rob the citizens who elected them by passing unconstitutional appropriations bills.
