Former Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, the first openly gay member of Congress, said ‘twas he who sank Sam Nunn’s chance of becoming secretary of state under President Bill Clinton.
The 1996 move, Frank said, was a pivotal display of gay-and-lesbian clout on the presidential scene.

The congressman is making the rounds, plugging his autobiography: “Frank: My Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same Sex Marriage.”
Frank reserved particular ire for former Georgia senator Sam Nunn:
“Sam Nunn actually fired two men at two different points from his staff when he found out they were gay. Geez, even some of the right-wing Republicans wouldn’t do that.
“And then he was at his worse when [President] Bill Clinton tried to get rid of the ban on gays in the military. Nunn became the leading opponent of that. He had more hearings, questioning sailors in their bunks about gay people, than he did about NATO.
I get a call from a friend in the White House who said Clinton was thinking seriously about making Nunn secretary of state. And I wrote Clinton a very strong memo, saying that would be an outrage. That would be a betrayal of your friends and those of us who defended you."

Frank was without doubt the most disgusting coprophile to ever grace the halls of congress. He and Dodd set the stage for financial collapse.
Wha-wha-whatttt!?!?!?! Is Barney Frank saying that the Democrat was an anti-gay bigot so much so that he would fire someone simply for BEING gay? And that Right Wing Republicans don't do things like that????? I'm really confused. The Democrats are, and always have been, the party of tolerance to all. That's what I've been taught by my intellectual betters over and over. So how can this be the case????
Who cares? Sam Nunn is just another Democrat.
He is at least the remnants of a shadow of a party that was once much better than it is now. There were once conservative Democrats AND conservative Republicans, as well as liberal Republicans and liberal Democrats.

If you are conservative Same Nunn is to your left.
He is to my left, and he is father left than Scoop Jackson.
Nearly all of the Republican caucus is also to my left, and I think that all too many of them are probably to Nunn’s left as well.
Many old-time Democrats would be an improvement on a substantial portion of the present Republican caucus.
If you are Romney, Sam Nunn is likely to your right.
If you are Scoop Jackson, every Republican nominee since Reagan is probably to your right.
