Two Hattiesburg, Miss., police officers were shot Saturday night (May 9), south Mississippi media outlets were reporting. Both officers have died, the Clarion Ledger in Jackson and WDAM in Hattiesburg were reporting.

The Clarion Ledger's story said police were seeking two men as suspects, Curtis Banks and Marvin Banks.

The Hattiesburg American reported the shooting occurred near East Fourth and Bouie streets around 8 p.m. Multiple agencies are involved in a search.

The identities of the officers have not been released, the newspaper said.

The newspaper said the last Hattiesburg officer slain in the line of duty was officer Jackie Dole Sherrill on New Year's Eve in 1984.

Interestingly both the Clarion-Ledger and the Hattiesburg American cannot be quoted here even in excerpt. The Hattiesburg area is very conservative but there is a largest state university there. One can only wonder if the local communists at the SMU "journalism' department were responsible for stirring up a 'copyright' complaint. There is no end or depth of leftists scheming and malevolence.

Both those papers are Gannett owned and denied posting priviledges to FR.

I saw 3 suspects were captured: Video at site below

Three people were arrested — and two were charged with capital murder — after two Mississippi police officers were shot to death during a traffic stop, a state law enforcement spokesman said Sunday.

The officers’ deaths were the first reported in the southern Mississippi city of Hattiesburg in three decades.

Warren Strain, a spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, told The Associated Press that 29-year-old Marvin Banks and 22-year-old Joanie Calloway were each charged with two counts of capital murder.

Banks was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with grand theft for fleeing in the police cruiser after the shooting, Strain said.

“He absconded with a Hattiesburg police cruiser. He didn’t get very far, three or four blocks and then he ditched that vehicle,” Strain said.

Banks’ 26-year-old brother, Curtis Banks, was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of capital murder.

Officers arrested the three Hattiesburg residents at different locations overnight following the fatal shooting of the officers Saturday evening, Strain said

I think you mean USM, not SMU.

And if you’d do a bit of research, you’d find out both papers are owned by the Gannett monopoly.

Well, Obama and his dogs at the Justice Department have their war on cops. Will there be any Justice officials going to Mississippi to investigate anything?

I was in Hattiesburg last year on business. Rat-hole of the highest order. Black areas and white areas. The Blacks there hate the whites (I know since I got the standard BOW treatment at my hotel) but we know this.

I’d imagine the local country boys are armed to the teeth in case the other boys try a Baltimore there.

Actually Hattiesburg has moved west a bit on US Highway 98. About every type of store and restaurant imaginable strung out along the highway with side roads leading off to nice well maintained subdivision and a bit further out the rather large Lake serenity development complete with golf course. The big churches have all left the old center city and repose now in giant sprawling sites. The university and most of the hospital are still in town. The area took a definite hit in the ‘08 bust but seems from construction activity to be back on track. My take is if you avoid the old downtown area and darktown it is a very pleasant place with excellent medical services and with a large state university a nice array of inexpensive cultural fare. Why did you stay down town? Lots of pleasant motel/hotels out on 98.
