So we should have surrendered the country in 2006?

McCain/Kennedy was a disaster and would have resulted in the the country being overrun.

As it is we still have a fighting chance to retain the rule of law.

McCain-Kennedy was not what the Senate passed, it was Hagel-Martinez, which was a blend of McCain-Kennedy and the Bush Plan. It was a 3 tier plan.

Tier 1 were those illegals who had been in the country longer than 10 years would be given amnesty onto the path(MCCain Kennedy).

Tier 2 were those illegals who had been in the country less than 10 years, but had arrived prior to Jan 1, 2004 and they would be given amnesty to guest worker.(Bush Plan)

Tier 3 were those that arrived after Jan 1, 2004 and they had to leave.

But that wasn't good enough so the GOP walked away from it.

In 2007 the Bush Plan was replaced by "Touch Back", and the unions killed immigration reform, which was a major defeat for Ted Kennedy

But for now, we all be wishing and hoping that come Nov 3, 2016, the GOP controls the senate with 60 seats, house, and presidency. But we have been hoping and wishing for that since Nov 3, 2008.
