Minnesota Gov. Dayton vetoes education bill, ready to call special session

14 hours after the 2015 session wrapped up, Governor Mark Dayton addressed the media and confirmed what most of us already knew; he is going to send the education bill back to lawmakers.

The biggest sticking point is the measure didn't include his request for $171 million in additional funding for universal prekindergarten which he says will help 47,000 four-year- olds get a head start on education. The House and Senate passed the bill on Monday, despite an earlier warning from the Governor.

The Governor says it's astonishing with a $1.9 billion surplus the legislature didn't include his request and puts the blame on house GOP lawmakers "It is solely the house republican caucus opposing it unanimously who blocked this passage and denied young children the chance for a better start to their education," Dayton said.

Accidently listened to a sound bite of him announcing his veto on the way home from work tonight.

Normally, I switch stations when he, or Obie are on the air.

I listened to this one.

His speech patterns are showing that he may be completely under the influence of his anti psychotic meds.

prekindergarten which he says will help 47,000 four-year- olds get a head start on education.

No evidence what so ever that this matters in the least. And plenty of evidence that it is worthless....except to the teacher's unions and public employees.

How many decades of Head Start and how many billions to fund it? Absolute zero in positive results.

Just absurd and ridiculous.

They can’t bring themselves to say stop having kids at 14, without a father around, and with no money.

Taking four year olds out of their homes to put in kindergarten isn’t about education. It is about indoctrination. Mold their young minds into commie feedback loops while they are too young to resist.

Universal Pre-K - the latest “progressive “ obsession - kids are too dumb to learn up to age level in regular school, so we’ll give them another year of the same thing......

Little more than state paid daycare.

Exactly why the Left wants to institute it as a mandatory "freebie".

My daughter sent all her kids to a combination Day Care/prekindergarten down here in S. MS and paid for it. The upside is that the center she send her kids to does a good job as far as giving the kids a head start on actual school and teaches them a lot of useful information. Plus, they held Christmas plays where the kids all participated and there was no hesitation or problem with them making it all about Jesus.

Governor Jim Beam is a provable liar.

He couldn’t get his education amount through the Democrat controlled state Senate. If state government shuts down there is only one person to blame for it.

Marx Dayton.
