DETROIT (WXYZ) - A massive tanker fire is finally out, and I-75 remains closed at I-375 in both directions. Drivers heading southbound on I-75 are getting off at Mack, and northbound drivers are being routed off at the I-96 interchange.

The truck tipped over on the I-75 overpass. Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said there are no injuries in the fire, and they started getting calls about 8:45 a.m.

The tanker is carrying 9,000 gallons of unleaded fuel, which is burning, according to Shaw.

He also said they have made contact with the driver who said he had some mechanical problems before the fire started. Right now, Michigan State Police is waiting for the fire to be put out, and then they will investigate as to how the accident happened.

Wasn’t that the tanker fire(I-94)in Dearborn a few months back?

I got those photos off of the local News Station’s website about this particular fire, so I can’t vouch for the dates.

That's going to make a real mess for the Tigers/Astros game at 1.

Did you spot smoke on the horizon?

No, I’m 70 miles away and the prevailing winds carry the smoke over Canada.

From the article: "The truck tipped over on the I-75 overpass."

That one looks upright, so it may not be the one (or it bounced off the divider and ruptured the tank).

It seems odd that the car in the bottom picture isn’t in the top one...(right side).

Had to have been hit and sent over or through the concrete barrier by the truck, otherwise there’s no reason for it to be so damaged and burning. I read no fatalities, which is a minor miracle given the appearance of that one vehicle.

Ah.

There’s a spot near where I live where I can see the cooling tower of a nuclear plant that’s about 35 miles away (the Nine Mile Point plant in Scriva, NY).

The place from which I can see it is high, about six hundred feet above the surrounding territory.

What’s interesting is that from this location, I can only see the top half of the cooling tower. At a distance of 35 miles, Earth’s curvature is enough to “cut off” its bottom.

So, from a distance of 70 miles, there’s probably no way you could see the smoke from this fire, even if you climbed a tower several hundred feet high.

Yep. I counted the dotted lines, as best I could, and it just looked like it should have been in the top image. Maybe it was dragged out of the mess, too. (Hard to put things out after they’ve burned down if you can’t cool off all the hot metal and odd smoldering bits and pulling them apart helps).

I don’t know the area, but would Dearborn respond with a ladder truck there? If not, those images may be from a different incident.

“It seems odd that the car in the bottom picture isn’t in the top one...(right side).”

Count the road markers. It is just off camera.

“Yep. I counted the dotted lines, “

You have to count up to six. The wreck is about #7.
