Teacher to Steph Curry: "I love you, but don't ever visit my high school" (Get ready to laugh)
csnbayarea.com ^ | June 2, 2015 | Staff report

He is as popular as any athlete in the United States, and is adored by fans around the world.

But one such fan, Matt Amaral -- an English teacher at Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, California -- has conflicting feelings about the superstar point guard.

"You see, Steph (I hope you don’t mind if I call you Steph), if you come to my school you will be your usual inspiring, humble, hilarious, kind self and you will say all the right things. But the reason I don’t want you to come has to do with what you won’t say.

"...you also won’t mention that along with your father’s success came all the monetary rewards NONE of my students have, like three square meals a day; a full sized court and hoop in the backyard; a sense of safety; a mother and a father; top schools, top peers, and community resources. I know you might not think of it like this, but you might as well have come from another planet. But you won’t say that, will you?

"I mean, look at Klay Thompson. I wonder if anyone else finds it odd that the best shooting back-court in NBA history were both born with silver balls.

"What you will do is shoot some threes, dazzle everyone with your dimples, high five the homies, and sign some autographs. It will be wonderful. At least, it will seem like that at first... If you ask the boys on my campus what they are going to be when they get older, the answer will involve a sport. They will claim they are going to play in the NBA or NFL, and seeing you there will make them think they can actually do it."

“Some inspiring teacher this guy is. “

hmmm. Teacher is concerned that worship of NBA is keeping students from making realistic goals ...

Sounds like a reasonable position.

I KNOW you didn’t read the article before you posted!

“And I love you. You would be my favorite player except for I have a soft spot for emotionally unstable crazies, and so I really love me some Draymond Green. But you are amazing and I also give you credit for being an amazing person off the court as well.”

Wish I, too, had been born with silver balls.

Would you feel the same if it was Bill Gates who was not welcomed, or a war hero, or a president. Those kids have next to no chance of achieving those levels.

What else does this teacher tell his students they can't achieve?

You must know since you used capital letters. Drunk by mid afternoon is not a good look.

I think Curry needs to take great head of this obvious intellectual. He needs to renounce the NBA and immediately go live on a commune after donating all his money to Obamacare.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Cavs!

At any given time, there are AT MOST 360 NBA Basketball Players in the entire universe.

The probability of any particular high school student becoming on is only infinitesimally different from ZERO. The statistics for NFL Football and Major League Baseball are similar.

The teacher has a valid point: Have a serious plan, because YOU WILL NOT BECOME AN NBA PLAYER.

Isn’t that what we hire teachers to do?

Obviously you are too investing into thug-ball to see how it is affects the youth.

Yes, it is.

Why did you rant about “Bitter, jealous, angry leftist spews venom at Steph Curry”? If this teacher is telling his students to study, learn, and have a seriously executable plan (”I’ll be an NBA Player” is not a seriously executable plan), he’s doing his job.

when I was in high school I wanted to be a football player.

but one day we had a celebrity sports event at our school and I saw how HUGE those guys were I realized I better learn math instead.

It is a good thing to have sports guys come and let the kids get a true perspective.

This teacher seems to be saying that Curry has ONLY been successful in the NBA because his father achieved success that ALLOWED him to play NBA-level basketball.

“Would you feel the same if it was Bill Gates who was not welcomed, or a war hero, or a president. Those kids have next to no chance of achieving those levels. “

But these dudes would at least give the students the sense to have a ‘back-up’ plan as the teacher refers to it.

Well, then let's keep our kids away from astronauts, nuclear physicists, anything that is outside their grasp, lest they become distracted from their studies.

You sound like a teacher I know who hates it when the Blue Angels fly over the city because the kids run to the window and look out.
