Republican presidential contender Sen. Ted Cruz apologized for an ill-timed joke about Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday night.
While speaking at a GOP dinner in Michigan on Wednesday, Cruz delivered an oft-told stump speech line poking fun at Biden, mentioning his name and then saying, "You know the nice thing? You don't need a punchline," according to the Detroit News.
"Honestly, it works," Cruz said, according to the news report. "The next party you're at, just walk up to someone and say, 'Vice President Joe Biden' and just close your mouth. They will crack up laughing."
While the line is often well-received on his campaign trail, this time it fell flat. Biden's son, Beau, passed away from brain cancer on Saturday.
Cruz took to Facebook and Twitter to issue an apology.
"It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize. The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family," Cruz wrote.

......horrible think that happened...but it doesn’t prevent Joe from being Joe....an open for criticism for a man one heartbeat away. (and I would welcome Biden if it meant getting rid of zer0 for the next year and a half.)

For sure. It's not like Biden hasn't ever put a foot in his own mouth...
I know, he did absolutely nothing wrong. The lib media is portraying it as if he was making fun of his son, but he was just commenting on Bidens character. He should have never apologized, he is lowering himself to their level.
it is a recognizable fixture like cigars in the mouth of Groucho Marx or George Burns... you wouldn't recognize Joe without a clean, articulate foot in his mouth!

I don’t watch CNN so I don’t see the “timing” between Joe Biden being a jackass and his son dying from cancer. I can’t “connect the dots”.

Or apologize like this, “It is said that I consider Biden a joke....it is true..and I am sorry.” nuff said
I was thinking the same thing. Cruz seldom apologizes, so he had to have a reason for it...or maybe, he was getting out in front of the criticism.
