School is out for the summer, but youth can still return to some area schools for free lunch in the coming months.
The federally-funded Summer Food Service Program provides free lunches for children 18 and younger, with the goal of making sure low-income students who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year still have nutritious food to eat in the summer. Summer lunch programs are open to children of any income level, from any school district.
The main reason we do it is because the economy in our area is not the greatest, said Terry Fuller, director of food services at Peru Schools. There are children who would go without a meal if we werent doing this.

I call BS on this. These kids come from families which receive food stamps . its simply not true to say they won’t get fed over the summer if not for this program.
Now, if there is a problem with the parents who get the food stamps and are so inept that they don’t feed their kids, that is a separate issue which should be addressed.
When I was teaching HS there, the trash cans were overflowing with the "nutritious food" from the morning meal. The kids threw out the fruit and cereal and ate the pop tarts.
Well, if the lunches look anything like some posted on other threads, I pity those kids.
Why stop at 18? What about all those hungry 26-year-old kids?
Why have EBTcards if the school will have free lunches? If you going to have your ‘parasites’ being fed by the school this summer, why don’t you give up your EBTcards?
Unless the parasites’ sperm and egg donors (I don’t call them parents) use EBTcards to buy liquors, clothes or drugs, not food.
More and More I feel like a chump for having gone to work another day.
Of course I really don’t have a choice as I’m not rich.
