So far, 44 million or so chickens have been culled because of bird flu. That is a significant proportion of the laying population. Simple economics: when supply drops, prices rise.

Commercial laying population of chickens is around 300 million.

The most important corollary: high prices cure themselves.

All central planners, politicians and control freaks, but I repeat myself, must memorize this. But if they won’t, then the citizenry should.

Natural disaster - let the prices rise, gouge people and report it a publicly as possible. That $100/lbs. bag of ice will quickly return to normal if the above is followed.

Otherwise, you get Katrina and NOLA. I rest my case.
