Pentagon bars discrimination against gays, lesbians in uniform

Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Tuesday the Pentagon has updated its equal opportunity policy to bar discrimination based on sexual orientation, putting it in the same category as discrimination based on race, religion, color, age and sex.

The change in policy, announced by Carter at a gay and lesbian pride celebration, gives U.S. military troops a broader range of choices in pursuing complaints if they believe they have been discriminated against based on sexual orientation.

The change brought the rules into conformity with the 2011 decision to end the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which allowed gays and lesbians to serve in the military only if they did not openly acknowledge their sexual orientation.

"The Department of Defense has made a lasting commitment to living the values we defend, to treating everyone equally, because we need to be a meritocracy," Carter said in announcing the decision.

"We have to focus relentlessly on our mission, which means the thing that matters most about a person is what they can contribute to national defense," he added. "This is a commitment we must continually renew."

Is this all the ***holes in Obama’s new evolved and enlightened military have to do? No wonder the Islamoterrorists’ special Olympics team, ISIS, is kicking their @$$.

Anyone who’s ever had a management or leadership position, you ever try to get an effeminate gay to follow orders? It’s like pulling teeth. They go into snit fits and rebel ala Bradley Manning. That’s why the military disqualified them, not because of “homophobia”. But liberals who never served know better than hundreds of years of US Military experience don’t they. This is going to cost lives. “Bruce, watch our flank” “Don’t tell me what to dooooo! Hmph! “

Bullstalin, the US military under Barack Obama is openly hostile to Christian religious tradition (whether that is mentioning God at a funeral or other religious invocations on a military base).

The change brought the rules into conformity with the 2011 decision to end the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which allowed gays and lesbians to serve in the military only if they did not openly acknowledge their sexual orientation.

And make no mistake: "Don't ask, don't tell" was always meant to be a back door to getting gays in the military, a baby step towards doing it openly.

Had the policy really ended, the old policy would have gone back into effect, which was that the military would ask up front if someone was gay, and bar them from joining if they answered "yes." Furthermore, if found out later, they would be kicked out.

The "Don't ask, don't tell" policy was expanded, not rescinded. Now, we have "gay (or LBGT) pride" events.

I, for one, would love to see mentally ill people receive treatment--even if we still do not have very effective treatments--over being coddled and humored about their illness. I do not know why the current societal fad over pretending that people who have sexually related mental illnesses are normal.

Wait a minute? There’s rules against discriminating for religion? Anyone told the Christians about this?

Actually this is inaccurate if not any outright lie. If your sexual preference is children or animals chances are you will still be arrested. This is for the homosexuals and the he/she/she he’s.. Both of those are still considered wrong. At least for now......

When DADT was repealed, I don’t believe an regulation was put in force to allow gays to serve. Once repealed it should have gone back to the way it was which prohibited gays from serving or the were discharged when found out.

Actually very true. I had a few over the years during don’t ask, don’t tell....they actually worked hard but when they got into one of their tizzies it was not pretty. Although they were overall decent, I don’t think we have the time to have to deal with those that are emotionally unstable as the majority of them are especially with ISIS and other threads our country is going through. I think the military should kick them out and put them into offices in the federal government where it is not a critical job and national security is not in peril dealing with them.

I am a retired Navy Chief and so I am on the “Chief’s Facebook Page” and the other day a thread was going on about activities for Gay Pride Month. I guess each command must have a program for Gay Pride Month. As I was reading through the thread and saw them discussing famous gay Naval Personnel, my reaction was I can’t believe it and thank goodness I am retired. Even the current active duty Chief’s were discussing it like they were discussing getting underway next week. It was weird and frightening at the same time. We are in big trouble in the future sooner then we think.
