The Worrywart Generation: The Age of Debilitating Anxieties
The American Spectator ^ | June 11, 2015 | Ron Ross

".....There are good reasons why society admires courage and despises cowardice.

Fear is one of the primary subjects taught in primary and secondary schools both public and private. Teaching fear to young people is a kind of collective child abuse. We are raising a generation of paranoid neurotics. Our children are being taught, erroneously, that individuals and the environment are delicate and fragile.

....Those who are the most paranoid seem to know the least about the objects of their anxieties. For example, fear of genetically modified foods, glutens, and hydraulic fracturing are based almost solely on complete ignorance of these issues and gross exaggerations of the actual dangers.

Fear is the primary impetus behind the population explosion of regulations over the past several decades. It is now estimated that regulations cost the U.S. economy $1.9 trillion a year, an amount equal to about ten percent of our GDP. It is a rare regulation that does more good than harm.

A particularly insidious and widespread form of fear mongering is political correctness or PC. PC is essentially fear of words. PC stifles communication and corrupts human interaction.

The latest variation of political correctness are the so-called “trigger warnings” that are the rage on college campuses. These have been appropriately labeled by Theodore Dalrymple as “pre-traumatic stress disorder.”

Too many people are squandering their one and only chance at life worrying about imaginary anxieties that, even if true, they can do nothing about...."

“glutens”. Someone, anyone please tell me why this the latest death chemical. Glutens have been in wheat and other carbs forever and yet our life expectancy grows by the decade.

Obama's Science and Technology adviser, John P. Holdren has been "on the job" since he first joined forces with Paul and Anne Ehrlich 45 years ago. Holdren advocates for the de-development of the United States:

....“A massive campaign must be launched to restore a high-quality environment in North America and to de-develop the United States,” Holdren wrote along with Paul and Anne H. Ehrlich in the “recommendations” concluding their 1973 book Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions.

“De-development means bringing our economic system (especially patterns of consumption) into line with the realities of ecology and the global resource situation,” Holdren and the Ehrlichs wrote...."

2009: The Electronic Journal of Sustainable Development : The Population Bomb Revisited - by Paul Ehrlich and Anne Ehrlich

"....Some of the lowest birthrates are now found in the rich, fully industrialized nations of Europe and in Japan. That’s fortunate in one respect because it is the high-consuming rich nations that place the greatest pressure on humanity’s staggering life-support systems (Ehrlich and Holdren 1971, Ehrlich and Ehrlich 2005).

The big exception is the United States, which is a center of over-consumption and whose population continues growing because of a relatively high birthrate (average family size about 2.1 children, compared with 1.4 in Italy and Spain and 1.3 in Germany and Japan) and high immigra-tion rate (4 per thousand, with Italy the same, Spain 7, Germany 0, and Japan 0). The nation has recently been in the strange position of debating immigration policy without ever discussing population policy...."

Ehrlich P., Ehrlich A., and J. Holdren. 1977. Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment . San Francisco: W.H. Freeman and Co.

February 19, 2015: GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP NECESSARY & POSSIBLE?

"With the continued buildup of greenhouse gases and the continued apathy of governments towards the lethal results of human population growth, Paul and Anne Ehrlich believe that a potential environmental storm is building up to bring down civilization....

..... Can much of the world population come to understand that humanity’s current dilemmas of environmental destruction, inequities, unemployment, and declining democracy, are not largely an accidental result of cultural evolution, but are rather mostly the consequences of deliberate planning, by those in charge, to increase their own wealth and power? Can they move dramatically to close the gap between the rich and poor that is especially dramatic in developing nations, and growing in many rich ones, especially the United States?....

[SNIP]

.....The MAHB’s [mahb.stanford.edukey] strategy is threefold: foster collaboration between natural scientists and social scientists to better understand the issues; build understanding of what we call ‘foresight intelligence’—the ability of individuals, institutions, governments, and society to act (behave) in ‘future smart’ ways; and engage civil society (individuals and organizations), already concerned about collapse, in ways that ‘strengthen’ the political impact of their endeavors. In short, the MAHB’s main goal could be said to help generate a bottom-up program to produce large numbers of global citizens, who, in turn might be able to divert society from its suicidal course. The odds of success seem small, but what choice does any ethical person have but to try?"

People should not treat this ridiculous garbage as being well motivated. “Microagressions” and “safe spaces” has absolutely nothing to do with any wrongheaded idea to make people feel better. It is from start to finish an ideologically motivated aggression against anyone who does not accept the liberal politically correct agenda and is an endeavor to silence and shame such. It is pure Saul Alinsky Marxism, and should always and everywhere be called out as such.

What about the non-stop fear-mongering about terrorism - to justify war after war and trillions of tax dollars?

If the response is “Oh but that fear is real”: hypocrisy.

If the response is “But that function is in the Constitution”, then at least stop using fear in arguments for all that government excess.

George Carlin also described us as a “war-like people”, “we like war” especially againt countries “full of brown people”.

Idiot school administrators don’t help when they get hysterical over a pop tart made into an image of a gun and not a very good image at that.

Gluten is the toxin du jour. These things run in cycles. It's replaced hypoglycemia, candida, saturated fats, etc.

"It’ll be Dihydrogen Oxide sooner or later."

Without Googling, I think it is dihydrogen monoxide, but get your point. Guess you heard of the petitions some years back that explained the deaths and dangers caused by the above and people actually signed them to make water illegal. And that is why we call them Low Information Voters (LIVs).

This is not so different from grooming the masses with tales of futures full of ruins and starving waifs (or zombie hordes) chasing the limited number of survivors.

That has been the general theme of most of what is called 'science fiction' for decades.

Once people already foresee that sort of future, it takes little to persuade them to 'change their path' to avoid it, even if the acts proposed virtually guarantee it.

The reason is that that future of ruin has already been made part of their normal expectations should the status quo continue.

Virtually every future vision presented in a variety of media presents that, and as the result of the (liberal spin on) current (non-'green') practice.

Therefore it is the status quo which must be changed in order to anticipate a different outcome, in the minds of those so programmed.

It is a subtle propaganda, overshadowed by the more blatant howling of doom by the most radical elements, but propaganda nonetheless.
