The Shah was a friend of the United States, and Iran was modernized under his regime. You can thank the peanut farmer of Georgia that he was over thrown and Iran went back to the 14th or earlier century
Nah, the Big C (cancer, not Carter) did the Shah in. He was too sick and weak to hold on. Who’d take his place? His preppy, Western educated son. He wouldn’t last a week. Plus, like I said, he was hated by most rank-and-file Iranians. No fan of Carter here, though. His behavior during the hostage crisis was detestable, and I’d have walked over hot coals to vote for Reagan.
